@LarryBundyJr God of War Ragnarok. It suffered from bloat that dragged down the middle third of the story, Atreus’s segments were complete slogs, the sidequests were forgettable, and the backtracking was just as bad (if not WORSE) than the first game. They should have split it into two games.

At the time (Of Recettear, and earlier) there was FAR less communication about translation and FAR less knowledge about what JP -> EN translations should look like. So people accepted it as "oh that must be what it's like in Japanese". We didn't KNOW how badly butchered Japanese games were. It doesn't help that the old JRPG translations were full of pop culture references and other totally made up trash.

Back in the 2010s there was a company called Carpe Fulgur that translated Recettear and others. It was an amazing localization team that spawned a lot of iconic quotes like “Capitalism, ho!” and “Yayfications!” Localization wasn’t always hated. What changed?
