I get the sentiment, but this is an absolutely terrible idea. Fact is that the largest airports are all in blue cities and even with those huge immigration sections there are still massive lines, particularly for non-citizens. Taking customs and immigration functions away from those airports forces the move into smaller airports with insufficient facilities to handle the influx, and just makes everything worse and more miserable. And this is before you even consider the havoc this wreaks on flights and routing. Small airports can't handle the flight volume that Houston and Dallas can, and international flights would have to be routed to a small airport from larger airports if customs and immigration were removed from the larger ones. Absolutely terrible idea.

NEW: In interview w/ colleague @BretBaier, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin floats the idea of stripping CBP/customs officers from airports in large sanctuary cities as retaliation for refusing to cooperate with the federal government. International travelers wouldn’t be able to fly into airports and leave without going through customs. Mullin points out that Democrats are also refusing to fund CBP. “It’s something we’re looking at,” Mullin said.
