This war presents a patriotism test for Dangote. Will he sell fuel cheaper locally, or let global demand and supply determine what Nigerians pay?

From your story, there could be something you didn't emphasize on about the arrogant suya seller. People most likely didn't just queue at his spot because he was arrogant and didn't caress his customer or better put, pamper them. It could be that he offered far more "quality" suya than his smiling competitor did. I'm a business person, and I know when to smile to get a customer to buy from me and when not to smile and still get patronage. No pattern works 100 percent, but choosing to interact with your customer in ways that make them patronize you is key as no two customers are the same. My little take.

I mistakenly discovered the most brutal law of human psychology that helps you easily sell to anyone including people who hate you... Back in 2014, there was a notorious Suya man at the corner of a busy junction in my neighborhood. He was, without a doubt, the most arrogant man I had ever met in my life. He didn't smile. He didn't say "Welcome, Oga." If you complained that the meat was too small or asked him to add extra onions and he wasn't in the mood, he would literally wrap your money back up, hand it to you, and point at the next seller with his head. "Go buy from another place," he would say, not even looking up from his grill. Right next to him was another seller. This second guy was doing the absolute most. He was always smiling, waving his knife, shouting "Come now! I go do you well! Free tasting!" He was literally handing out pieces of meat on toothpicks to anyone who walked by. Guess who had a queue of Mercedes and Lexus SUVs parked illegally, their owners waiting 45 minutes in the sickening smoke? The arrogant man. Guess whose grill was full of drying, unsold, fly-bothered meat? The smiling friendly overly generous one. I stood there one night, chewing my over-spiced beef, and realized I was staring at the purest, most brutal law of human psychology: 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿. And this is where your marketing is bleeding out. Most of you are the second suya seller. Your brand reeks of "Please just buy from me." You drop your prices the moment a prospect hesitates. You flood their DMs with "Just checking in" and "Offer ends today... again" messages. You are offering 90% discounts on your digital products because you are terrified of the silence. You think you are being "customer-friendly" or "hungry." You are not. You are broadcasting desperation. You are telling the market that your value is so low, you have to beg people to take it. In the art of the Courtship, the one who needs the deal the least holds 100% of the power. The moment your audience senses that you need their ₦50,000 more than they need your transformation, your authority dies on the spot. They will treat you like a vendor, price you to into the ground, and then go pay premium price to the guy who didn't even flinch. If you want that 97% "Yes" we talked about yesterday, you have to completely reconstruct your posture. You have to stop leaning forward into the screen, and start leaning back. You must become the Prize. For the next 29 days, my only goal is to completely destroy your inner beggar. I am going to show you how to build so much gravity around your name that people wait in line to give you their money. Day 2 is over. Stop chasing. Let them queue. ============== Leave a comment and repost if you found some light in this. ~ V.O.V

Shedding skin is part of the enterpreneurship journey. What's required to start a business is different from what's demanded to sustain a business. You hold onto who you were for too long and lose what you built.

I'm feeling really ashamed and emotional right now. IShowSpeed visited Ethiopia, Kenya, Kigali, etc, and the world got to see the incredible beauty and positive energy of Africa shining through. But now in Lagos, things aren't looking good at all. He was quickly surrounded by street boys aggressively asking for money. Some followed him on marwa (tricycles) and bikes, behaving in a chaotic, low-life way that caused real distress and embarrassment. We urgently need bold, radical leadership in Lagos, someone like Fashola to step up and take charge again. Lagos's biggest challenge right now is severe overpopulation. The city is simply too small to handle the massive influx, every Nigerian seems to want to live here, and it's overwhelming, but this isn't entirely the people's fault. I blame the government for failing to develop other states across Nigeria properly. When opportunities, infrastructure, and quality of life are concentrated only in Lagos, people have no real choice but to migrate here. All the Celebrities, all the rich and poor, the good, bad, and ugly, nationwide all flock to Lagos, making the problem even worse. To stop this endless migration and ease the pressure, we must come together as Nigerians and demand better, equitable development, investment in every state, and real opportunities everywhere. Only then can we build a more balanced and prosperous country. Africa showed its best side to the world through Speed's tour, let's make sure Lagos and Nigeria rise to that same level. 🇳🇬 @jidesanwoolu

@Joe_brendan_ Your position on certain issues are uninspiring. What will you be doing for 5years that you can't fix electricity in Nigeria. Even if I agree with you that we need 50years to fix electricity, biko how old is Nigeria as at today?

When I talk about standardizing our markets and items by eliminating market and road side trade by 70% for big retail I'm called the hater of the poor Nafdac Cannot monitor and regulate all the kiosks in Nigeria. If we do away with kiosks and market men and women by a large percentage, Nafdac can monitor and regulate our products better with big retail because it's easier Most people are having cancer from the pomo they ate, some palm oil, some meat that the seller kept for three days, etc etc Road side and market sellers have no standards and they are our number one health risk. I speak as someone on ground who has full information Trust me, Nigeria will be 100X better and healthier when we eliminate road side selling, kiosks, market men and women for big Retail Our regulatory agencies can do their Jobs like they are already doing with big retail now
gst@wearegst

Palm oil is in almost every Nigerian kitchen, but right now, most of what is being sold in our markets isn’t oil. It’s a mix of water, dyes, and unsafe additives.

@Joe_brendan_ The same factors that got ShopRite to close shop and leave Nigeria. Would you compare a one man or family business selling from a kiosk or corner down the street to a supermarket with overhead costs, salaries and taxes to pay.

@Joe_brendan_ It's the same chemists and patent medshops that upgraded to pharmacy, they just had to meet pharmacy council regulatory standards. My solution here is not computers and websites it's about achieving market transparency. I wonder why you think big stores don't sell fake products.

Pharmacists should have improved the chemist structure and allow people who are not trained pharmacists own and run drug stores right? They should have given them computers and websites. that will make the legit You have a health risk here and you are saying a better option is economic sabotage. Lol

@Joe_brendan_ There are macro economic factors that favour these neighborhood shops and open market stores over the standard shops. Even standard shops can sell fake products.

@withbuikem nothing is impossible. and I am not saying they will cease to exist 100% they have to be reduced heavily to the point where standard shops are first option

MTN Nigeria is a very funny company. You came to my area and inconvenienced us for months in the name of installing your fiber optic cables. We were patient. Afterwards we subscribed to the said service. Everything was fine for like a month, but now, I regret decision to subscribe, cos it no longer works at all. The worst part is that you have frustrated every attempt at resolving this. Because I’m busy, I have sent many people on multiple occasions to your office in Maitama, but regrettably, all visits have proved unhelpful. Your reluctance to even direct them to the specific department in charge makes me wonder if you are really serious about providing this service (which is not free btw). Abeg help me ask MTN the colour of their problem. @MTNNG @MTN180.
