family reactions to MRR:
> $100 MRR: "you need a job"
> $500 MRR: "you need a job"
> $1k MRR: "yeah, but you need a job"
> $2k MRR: "yeah, but a job earns more"
> $3k MRR: "okay, do what you want"
> $5k MRR: "what exactly do you do?"
> $10k MRR: "are you sure this is stable?"
> $100k MRR: "you were always a smart kid"

just built a website for a luxury auto repair shop
they service Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi
but had one generic landing page for all of them
now they have brand-specific pages that update from one CMS
change pricing once, updates across every page
Porsche owners see Porsche branding, BMW owners see BMW
same backend, customized frontend
this is how you scale positioning without scaling work

everyone wants to scale their ad budget
before they have a single profitable campaign
you're running ads at 0.8x ROAS
and asking "should i increase to $500/day?"
bro no
here's what scaling actually looks like:
week 1-2: test at $30/day, find what works
week 3-4: optimize winners, get to 2x+ ROAS
week 5: increase budget 20%
week 6: measure, if stable increase another 20%
week 7+: repeat slow increases
scaling isn't "spend more and hope"
it's "prove profitability, then carefully amplify"
most people skip step 1 and wonder why everything breaks at scale
English

client asked me why their CPAs doubled
i checked the account
they edited the ad copy themselves
changed:
"Book your free estimate today"
to:
"Schedule a complimentary consultation to discuss your project needs"
nobody talks like that
your ad copy should sound like a text to a friend
not a corporate memo
simpler = better
always
have you seen clients ruin their own ads? replies only

never doing a "paid trial" again and here's why
got a message on Contra from an agency
"we need designers, do motion graphics for big clients"
checked their site - looked professional
recognized some of the client logos
thought: this could be a good opportunity
jumped on a call with the founder
he's selling the vision:
"we're growing fast"
"need reliable designers for storyboarding"
"want to start with a trial project - we'll pay $100"
$100 for a trial seemed reasonable
better than free, right?
i agreed
spent 3 days building out the storyboards
delivered everything in Figma
clean, organized, exactly to spec
then they vanished
no reply to my delivery message
no "thanks, not a fit"
no "we went another direction"
just straight up ghosted
i followed up twice - nothing
checked back 2 weeks later - they're still active
posting new projects, updating their portfolio
they didn't need a "trial"
they needed free work and found a sucker willing to do it for $100
here's the reality:
legitimate agencies don't do $100 trials
they either:
hire you for a real project at real rates
or they don't hire you at all
"paid trials" are just a polite way to get cheap labor
new rule: no trials, period
if they want to see my work, here's my portfolio
if they want to test my skills, pay full rate for a real project
protecting my time costs me opportunities?
fine
better than getting played for $100 and 3 days of work

this is how i scale winning campaigns:
week 1-2: let it learn, gather data, don't touch anything
week 3: identify winners (low cost per lead, consistent conversions)
week 4: duplicate winning ad set, increase budget by 20%
then test new variations:
- same copy, different images
- same image, different hooks
- new audiences (lookalikes, different interests)
scale slowly
jumping from $20/day to $200/day kills performance
the goal isn't to scale fast
it's to scale profitably and maintain consistent CPAs
patience wins

meta ad library is free competitor research
yet nobody uses it properly
here's how to actually use it:
step 1: search your competitor's brand name
step 2: sort by "active ads"
step 3: look for ads running 30+ days (those are winners)
step 4: screenshot the copy, save the creative
step 5: identify the pattern (what angle are they using?)
don't copy word-for-word
copy the STRUCTURE:
if they're using problem/solution → use that format
if they're using testimonials → test that angle
if they're leading with urgency → try that hook
most people just scroll and get "inspired"
winners reverse-engineer and execute
