Happy Pride Jacksonville 🏳️🌈 As we celebrated in City Hall today, it was evident that love will always win - this month and every month. Let’s keep advocating for equality, challenging prejudice, and standing in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors. To do that, we need your voices at the table. So in that spirit, I’m excited to announce the creation of the Mayor’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Board. This board will be made up of 11 individuals who will act as a liaison between the LGBTQ+ community and City government. My hope is that this will help us take another step toward full equality and creating opportunities for everyone.

I do need to add to this: our newspaper and parent company, and our peers in local media (including @FCN2go and @wjxt4) spent and are still spending resources on some judicial decisions affecting public access to trials. This is expensive, not always sexy, but important work.

@NateMonroeTU She definitely was a force. Always made her opinion known. Stood up for her district. She admitted when she was wrong. She spoke out when needed. I will miss Denise Lee.

Denise was one of the council members who walked out of a 1989 budget meeting in order to force the issue on more money for drainage improvements in her district. The council president had her and two of her colleagues arrested and forced back. But they got more money.

Looking at Jacksonville's desegregation history. I've talk to a number of former Raines students and Ribault students who attended the schools in the 60s. But I'm looking for any White students that went to Raines in the early days of desegregation. @wjxt4
