Our ground and aerial teams operating during the Summer Fire Season in the Western and Eastern Cape responded to 36 fires in February 2026. We remain ready to support our partners and stakeholders with rapid, effective fire suppression whenever needed.

Our ground and aerial teams facing the Summer Fire Season in the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces attended 96 fires in January 2026. We are always ready to assist our partners and stakeholders with fire suppression.

The Deputy Minister expressed his sincere appreciation to all personnel, ranging from firefighters on the front lines to the administrative and logistical teams, whose dedication and support are critical to the success of this operation.

During the visit, he received a detailed operational briefing from the Cape Winelands DM, WOF Kishugu JV, CapeNature, the FPA, and other key stakeholders actively involved in the firefighting operations.

The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Narend Singh, visited the Incident Command Centre at Victor Verster Prison, which is coordinating efforts to manage the Wemmershoek Fire in Franschhoek, on 15 January 2026.

WOF–Kishugu JV attended a media briefing by the Cape Winelands District Municipality on 12 Jan 2026, updating on the Wemmershoek Fire. Minister Anton Bredell highlighted the wildfire risks in the WC & thanked fire services, including Working on Fire & Kishugu Aviation pilots.

Firefighting operations remain active in the Western and Eastern Cape, where multiple resources are deployed in response to ongoing veld fires. Aerial support and ground crews continue to work hard assisting with the suppression of these raging fires.

WOF–Kishugu JV remains actively engaged in wildfire suppression across the Western & Eastern Cape, with 223 firefighters, 3 Choppers, 1 Bomber, 3 Command and Control aircraft, 19 WOF vehicles, and 2 Aerial Support Vehicles supporting operations of 23 active fires.

WOF–Kishugu JV ground and aerial resources are supporting wildfire suppression across the Western & Eastern Cape. Currently, 256 firefighters, 3 choppers, 2 Command aircraft, 17 WOF vehicles, and 2 Aerial Support Vehicles are assisting at the 22 active fires.
