Our team generated 25M organic views since Jan 1.
And here’s the uncomfortable truth about virality👇
We’re quickly learning that not all virality is created equal.
Some drive revenue.
Some unlock fundraising.
Some do absolutely nothing.
Here’s how I now break it down now:
1. Flash-in-the-Pan Viral
Something crazy happens once.
Hawk Tuah energy.
Impressive. Useless. Gone tomorrow.
2. Repeatable Viral Asset (GOATED)
A format you can tweak slightly and the algo keeps pushing it. This is near impossible to find.
@hthieblot is the reason I even knew this existed.
@lukescott actually found it for us.
If you discover this, it’s not “content”... it’s an asset.
Worth putting on the balance sheet.
3. “Low-Key Viral” (But Not Really)
This one got us early.
I once posted a slideshow about my tech journey.
We over-indexed. Thought we cracked something.
We hadn’t.
It wasn’t repeatable. It wasn’t real.
4. Viral About Going Viral (Underrated)
This is the real unlock for tech industry exposure.
@im_roy_lee is the GOAT here.
We assumed 25M TikTok views = SF attention.
Shocker: not at all.
Millions of consumers know us now.
Almost no one in SF does outside of @fdotinc
This thread is my first real swing at fixing that.
5. Viral for No Reason
When @lukescott was warming up, he posted a random meme.
It popped.
We laughed.
It meant absolutely nothing.
The takeaway:
1M views here != 1M views there.
Repeatability is worth its weight in gold.
Distribution is a GRIND and it truly is the new meta.
Pick one and go hard.
