CRAZY: Two Grown Men PISSING in a Stranger’s Yard Sparks Bloody Knife Attack in Queens! Two grown men treating a family’s front yard like their personal urinal. The term “Halal” covers the entire process—from the animal’s species and raising conditions to slaughter, processing, storage, and packaging—ensuring no contamination with forbidden (Haram) substances like pork, alcohol, or blood. Key Requirements for Halal Meat Several core conditions must be met, primarily centered on the slaughter method known as Dhabihah (or Zabiha): 1. Permitted Animal Species
The animal must belong to a Halal category, such as cattle, sheep, goats, deer, chickens, turkeys, ducks, or quail. Forbidden (Haram) animals include pigs, carnivores (e.g., dogs, cats), birds of prey, amphibians, and pests. Seafood is generally Halal without ritual slaughter. 2. Animal Condition and Welfare
The animal must be alive, healthy, and free from disease or defects at the time of slaughter. It should be treated humanely throughout its life and during handling—no abuse, and it is often recommended to provide water and avoid slaughtering while hungry or in view of other animals. Feed must also be Halal-compliant (no pork by-products). 3. Slaughterer
The person performing the slaughter must be a sane adult Muslim (some interpretations allow “People of the Book,” i.e., Jews or Christians, but this varies by certifying body and scholar). They must have the proper intention for Halal slaughter. 4. Invocation of God’s Name
The slaughterer must recite “Bismillah, Allahu Akbar” (“In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest”) at the time of slaughter, typically out loud for each animal (or in batches for poultry in some standards). 5. Slaughter Method
A sharp knife is used for a single swift cut across the throat that severs the jugular veins, carotid arteries, trachea (windpipe), and esophagus, but does not cut the spinal cord. This allows rapid blood drainage and minimizes suffering. The animal must remain alive at the moment of the cut, and complete bleeding (exsanguination) must occur before further processing. No part of the animal is cut prior to this. 6. Blood Drainage and Post-Slaughter
All blood must be fully drained from the carcass, as consuming blood is strictly prohibited. The meat must not contact any Haram substances (e.g., pork, alcohol, or non-Halal meat) during processing, storage, or transport. Equipment and facilities must be dedicated or properly cleaned/segregated. Stunning Practices Traditional Halal slaughter often avoids stunning entirely to ensure the animal is alive and conscious at the cut. However, many modern certifying bodies allow reversible (non-lethal) stunning (e.g., electrical head-only stunning) if the animal remains alive and capable of recovery at the time of the throat cut. Lethal or irreversible stunning is generally not permitted. Policies vary by certifier—some are stricter than others. Halal Certification Process Halal certification is not automatic; it requires verification by a recognized Halal certifying body (e.g., American Halal Foundation, IFANCA, ISA Halal, or international ones like JAKIM in Malaysia). The process typically includes: • Application and ingredient review (ensuring no Haram elements). • Facility inspection and audit of slaughter, handling, and processing. • Ongoing monitoring, traceability, and annual renewals to maintain the certification label. Certification confirms compliance with the above standards and prevents cross-contamination. Without it, meat labeled “Halal” may not meet rigorous standards—always look for a trusted certifier’s logo. Notes on Variations and Similarities • Interpretations can differ slightly among Islamic schools of thought or certifiers, especially regarding machine slaughter for poultry, stunning, or slaughter by non-Muslims. • Halal shares similarities with Kosher (Jewish dietary laws), such as blood drainage and humane slaughter with a sharp knife
