My main argument was that "abolish Ofsted" is dangerous because that fundamentally suggests you're removing enforcement altogether. Which I don't agree with. I'd say overhaul Ofsted, not abolish it. It's still needed.

@wonkingmankey @philsharrock @ZackPolanski The entire edifice is rotten and arbitrary. I once knew an OFSTED inspector who used the inspections as her personal "nestegg". All she had to do was ensure her colleagues didn't downgrade any school she'd taken over on a temporary basis, so she wouldn't lose her ranking.

Nothing educationally significant changes, it's just the stress levels and pressure that it causes. The methodology of pass/fail is also a heinous nonsense when you're dealing with multifarious human factors.

Many stupid hoops get jumped through in the lead up to an inspection cycle, to no positive effect on student outcomes. Some SLT going utterly mad with stress.

@Heccles94 All progressive tax systems do is put downwards pressure on the unwealthy. It doesn't redistribute wealth. People can be high income but not even moderately wealthy yet.

Okay, how about this? Up to 15k - 5% 15k-30k - 10% 30-40k - 20% 40-100k - 30% 100k-150k - 40% 150 - 250k - 50% 250-500k - 60% 500k-1 mil 70% Above 1 mil 75% With tax loopholes all closed and an exit tax etc. plus a we wealth tax above 10 mil at 1% and 2% above 1 billion. Thoughts?

@tonywestonuk @JackxJewell @Heccles94 50% over 100K is mad. It's good earnings but it's not what it was 10 years ago. All this progressive tax system does is make it harder for the unwealthy to climb the ladder. It does nothing to redistribute wealth.
