One time for the birthday girl 💋

I'm genuinely excited about the success of “Towards Transparent and Responsible AI: Addressing Bias and Impartiality in AI Systems,” the first-ever student-led AI conference at @daimhulluni, held on 8 May 2025! What began as a proposal I suggested during our Modern Researcher 2 module, aimed at boosting research engagement and sharing our work with a broader audience, evolved into an unforgettable day, thanks to the tireless efforts of my fellow PhD researchers - Gbenga Adebiyi (@Gpsalm), Macaulay Gowan-Brown, and Taofiq Adeyemo who immediately embraced my vision and joined me in organising the conference. Together, we co-organised and led a full-day event that welcomed 30 in-person attendees and 55+ online participants, spanning students, researchers and industry professionals. A huge thank you to all our participants and attendees (both online and in-person), and to our department, DAIM (Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Modelling) @daimhulluni, for providing the space and support we needed, and to the Doctoral College @pgrhub (Hannah Worthen and Sarah Greer), and the University of Hull @UniOfHull for their unwavering backing. Special gratitude goes to Professor Kevin Pimbblet (@jabberjabber0), Director of DAIM for delivering the keynote, and Dr. Julius Sechang Mboli, and Dr. Aarzoo Dhiman for expertly coordinating the day and ensuring everything ran smoothly. We were honoured to partner with Carbon Note AI @carbonnote__ai and to receive generous sponsorship from HEIF (Hull’s Higher Education Innovation Fund). Our programme featured insightful presentations across industry, music, medicine, philosophy and finance, a dynamic panel session and yes, free lunch for all attendees! Thanks also to our external speakers and panelists - Oluwole Fagbohun (@wolefizzy), Anuoluwapo Gabriel (@gabs_jeb), Dr Aoife Curran, and Dr Zekun Guo (@Zek_Guo) for delivering their expert and insightful talks. As lead organiser, I was proud to deliver my own talk: “Fairness, Bias and Cultural Representation in AI-Driven Music Systems,” exploring how emotion recognition and recommendation algorithms can marginalise under-represented genres and cultures. This experience has shown me the power of collaboration, curiosity and community in driving meaningful conversations around AI ethics. Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported and believed in us.
