The Cenotaph was designed and carved by HH Martyn at Sunningend Works (now Lansdown Industrial Estate) by Cheltenham’s master craftsmen. The buildings in which it was carved are to be demolished because @CheltenhamBC and @Go_CheshireWest didn’t value our industrial heritage.

A beautiful picture of the unveiling of the Cenotaph in 1920 🇬🇧

@LauraKinnear4 @BookStroud So pleased for you, and I look forward to reading your piece in due course 🥂❤️

It's tradition that every year on the 5th of November we put that guy Faulks on top of The Bonfire of the Vanities.

@LRylandEpton It even feels sad from your picture. Poor Agnes.

Under this bit of the infirmary in #Salisbury once stood a medieval gaol where an alleged #witch, Agnes Mylles, was taken in 1564. She was tried and then executed at a spot now a roundabout just up the road. Visiting the site makes me sad.

@forthygreatpain It will be the first GS for me, too — Lauren Elkin’s Flâneuse got me interested in her, time to actually read her!
English

@woollenwords That sounds excellent. I STILL haven't read any Sand, though I've been meaning to. Think we have The Devil's Pool, don't know if that's a good place to start.
English

@forthygreatpain I’m hoping to read George Sand’s Winter in Mallorca for a bit of seasonal travel
English

@woollenwords @M_Z_Harrison Oh yes! I've not got this but have been meaning to! Thank you for the nudge. ❄️

On Friday eve 15 Nov I’ll be at Calstock Arts talking about my book GROUNDBREAKERS & the fortunes of #WildBoar in SW England & beyond.
Tickets sold have been on the low side so would be hugely grateful if you could flag to any Cornwall or Devon pals! 🐗

We’ve had a wonderful time in Calella/Barcelona at Sing for Gold 2024 with @INTERKULTUR. The results are in: we won Gold medals in both our categories! We’ve heard & met so many amazing choirs, sung in stunning venues, enjoyed time together, and made the most of being by the sea!

@LongbarrowPress What a poignant moment for you & your family. ❤️

My father was part of the crew that built this school in 1964. 60 years later, it is to be demolished. The asbestos will be removed, from the gutters and pipes, the ducts and partitions, the asbestos that likely contributed to his death from mesothelioma.

The horrifying reality of being a woman, perfectly summarised by @_CaitlinORyan
If you give even the slightest shit about women, watch it all. This is what it’s like.

@lozzawriting @alexjenkinspoet It’s a very neat number! I wonder how much richer things such as synesthesia get as we learn more about the world so have more associations, or have more ways to describe them.
English

@alexjenkinspoet @woollenwords Every time these things come up, I become slightly obsessed thinking about them. I don't have synesthesia, but sometimes I associate things with the number 4. I've done it my whole life. I wonder if that's a thing. I've always just considered it a lucky number but now ... 🤔🤔🤔

Who among us can see faces in things?
We think most creative people can probably see, but we're interested to know if that's true.
My parents can't, so it got me wondering.

It is #WorldMenopauseDay! What fun! Here’s a related, very short, story that I wrote and that @frazzledlitmag kindly chose to publish ❤️ inspired by an essay by Ursula K Le Guin shared by @brainpickings
