@MyLordBebo This is just a pause to rearm Ukraine. Why would they agree to that?

🇷🇺🇺🇦🇺🇸 Trump: "Ukraine just agreed to a ceasefire "a little while ago. Now we have to go to Russia and hopefully President Putin will agree to that. We want to get that war over with." -> Will Putin accept?

@alltheputs @amuse I'm confused by point #1 "around $1.5 billion annually" and point #3 "would eliminate a $38 billion annual economic benefit" Explanation?

CANADA SELF OWNS 1. Ontario exports approximately 10% of its electricity to the U.S., primarily to states like Michigan, New York, and Minnesota, generating significant revenue—around $1.5 billion annually, according to the Canadian Energy Regulator’s 2023 data. 2. The Ontario power grid was designed with excess capacity to meet U.S. demand, as noted in a 2022 report by Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), making U.S. contracts critical for grid stability and cost management. 3. Cutting electricity exports, as threatened by Premier Doug Ford, would eliminate a $38 billion annual economic benefit, based on IESO projections from 2024, due to lost revenue and increased domestic rates to cover fixed costs. 4. A 25% tariff on electricity exports, announced by Ford in March 2025, would raise Canadian electric rates by 30%, per IESO estimates, straining Ontario households and businesses already facing inflation. 5. Canada’s hydropower, the backbone of Ontario’s electricity, relies on stable U.S. trade to balance the grid, but drought in 2023 reduced generation, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, increasing U.S. imports to Canada. 6. Ford’s threat follows U.S. President Trump’s tariff proposals on Canadian goods, but retaliatory measures risk blackouts in Canada, as IESO warned in a 2025 briefing, due to overbuilt infrastructure dependent on U.S. demand. 7. Ontario’s electricity system, interconnected with the U.S. via the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, faces grid instability without U.S. customers, per a 2024 NERC report, contradicting Ford’s political posturing. 8. Historical data from Electricity Canada (2023) shows Ontario’s grid reliability hinges on cross-border trade, with disruptions causing cascading failures, as seen in minor outages linked to U.S. demand drops in 2019. 9. Ford’s leadership, marked by controversial decisions like the Greenbelt scandal, suggests political grandstanding over economic logic, per a Financial Post article from March 2025, risking Ontario’s economic stability. 10. U.S. states receiving Ontario power, like Michigan, have long-term contracts ensuring delivery, per a 2024 Michigan Public Service Commission report, making Ford’s threat legally and logistically unfeasible without severe consequences.

OH CANADA! Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatened to cut off the electricity for 1.5 million Americans despite long term contracts guaranteeing delivery. Ford doesn't realize that cutting the US off would cost Ontario $38 billion a year, raise Canadian electric rates 30%, and result in grid instability throughout Canada. Canada's power generation and grid facilities were overbuilt to service US customers - without US customers the system isn't affordable or reliable.
