- If a horde of hungry hyenas suddenly overran your office, the consequences would be pretty high. The chances of that happening, though, are blessedly low. - If one of your employees called in sick, the consequences would be low, but the chances of that happening are frustratingly high. - If a significant client left you for your competitor, the consequences would be moderate, and the chances of that happening are also moderate. The point is that risks exist and we need to be prepared for. The higher the risk and the higher the consequence, the more you need to plan for it. An excellent way of clarifying and classifying risks is with a Risk Matrix. A Risk Matrix color codes risks by likelihood and severity of consequences and makes it easy for you to figure out which risks get priority focus.
