@workhomeproject

The way we work is changing. The Workhome Project advocates design and policy norms that make this change work – for communities, cities and the environment.

@antonyslumbers Big news but expected. BT downsized their property portfolio by 50% in 2004 when they adopted a home-working policy. What to do with the space? Make 'workhomes' for those who need more space for their home-based work - both blue-collar workers and creatives.

Three years of arguing that the world has changed and companies will need a lot less space. Largely to poo pooing from the industry. But eventually the obvious becomes obvious to all. 👇

Shared an office today with a guy who worked from 8-2.45 I asked him what he does after. He said “3-6pm is my free time! I see friends, play sport” I asked, what about evenings? He said: “that’s my evening time! I relax” Gotta hand it to the Danes when it comes to work norms

Our 2022 Davidson Prize entry explores the city itself as the locus for *co-living for all*, achieved by infusing existing cities, neighbourhoods and buildings with co-living principles. Read the beautiful poem written by S J Fowler as part of our entry below 👇 @stevenjfowler

@TalktoARYZE Home-based work is enshrined in the Japanese planning system - allowing houses with small other use, eg shop, office, studio etc, in 12 of 13 Land Use Zones. Even in Tokyo's most tightly regulated resi area, 49% or 50m2 (whichever is smaller) workspace is permitted in any home

@Rob_Fiehn Nice piece about these in Giles Walkley’s book on Artists’ Houses. I included them in my book ‘Beyond Live/work: the architecture of home-based work’. Studio houses for ‘gentlemen artists’ with space for a housekeeper on the lower floor. Yes, slot windows to get canvasses out.
