I’ve been reflecting on my life this evening and I think that I was most content from my 30s to mid 40. My role was very clear - I was mum and primary carer for my children. Being a mum to growing children defined my purpose in life. They’ve left home now and so that sense of purpose has gone and I’m not sure what’s replaced it, if anything.

@iky_fwjett Are you sure that they are angry? Suppose they've just come to the realisation that it's just best to cut their losses and move on, not wasting precious oxygen and energy on ultimately pointless exchanges?

@jay_kay20164345 @Nithya_Shrii 'Never again!' to what exactly? Let's hope it's to just standing by speechless when you could have piped up and asked said co-worker who gave her permission to offer the brownies you baked and brought in...

Today is brought in brownies to my office. When my boss popped out to visit, my coworker offered him a brownie AS IF she had brought them in! He accepted and she dished him one up and he thanked her and walked away as I stood there speechless that she would not mention she did not bring them in! I do not need credit for everything, but seriously that was emblematic of how she is! Never again!

@mumo_mumo_ @DearS_o_n How annoying! If s/one is polite & kind to you, why on earth would you take the mick? It just makes no sense to me. Why test kindness? Wouldn't it be better to show appreciation and discretion? Sometimes I just have to wonder about the life forms walking the face of God's earth.

@DearS_o_n Being “too nice” isn’t the issue. Being nice without boundaries is. People don’t disrespect kindness; they test it. If there’s no signal of limits, some assume there’s no cost to pushing. Politeness plus self-respect reads differently than politeness alone.

@rumilyrics No need to lie and one should *definitely* NOT normalise lying. There are other, truthful ways to communicate that your private life is off limits for conversation: e.g. change the topic, return their question with a question, silence, the list goes on and on. No need to lie.

People will exclude you because they don't like you, and then dislike you even more because you're not bothered that they're excluding you.
