Ecstatic to see my human-whale friendship story, ‘Old Scar Tail and the Professor’ made it onto the winner’s list with 7th place. Congratulations to everyone and thanks to @nycmidnight for introducing me to rhyming stories- I’m hooked!

Gremlins have taken over the NQW website 😱 We appreciate your patience (and impatience - all feelings are valid! 😂) as we work through these “unprecedented times”. Birthday Boy is on the case, so please bear with us.

How did we go, #microfictionchallenge250 gang? I wheezed over the finish line after giving my one beta reader, @QuiteWriteEd, strict instructions to ignore all the big problems because I didn’t have the heart to fix them 🤣

Okay, slid (grabbing hat as the door closed) into r2 with an 8th place in round 1 (top 10 proceeded). A busy weekend of writing awaits, with this and the finish of my WB 1000-word story (currently 0% complete). 😎

@AKScotland @deankoorey I was so happy to roll out of drama and into comedy for WB… then I had to start writing 😬

@ReiserSimon Good luck! December was my first one back in ages, but I'm glad to be back on the furious train.

@deankoorey I'm just laying an evil cackle over that... I second-guessed myself so many times I was dizzy.

Were the #FuriousFiction prompts for January originally going to ask for just ONE of the senses? Yes, yes they were. But then again, that wouldn’t be a CHALLENGE would it!

The first Friday of the month/year really creeps up on you! Happy to have submitted to #furiousfiction, written between several sets of tennis. Loved the prompts & think I came up with something unusual! Good luck to all!

And the first story of the year is on its way. Thanks to @WritersCentreAU for the #FuriousFiction challenge and kicking me out of the food coma and into "brainiation" as my kids would say. Good luck all, but I feel we've already won, laying down a story in the single days of Jan!

You don't want the audience waiting for what happens next. You want them to anticipate it. This means controlling the narrative momentum, stakes, and tension. It's your job to keep them engaged. Don't ask for their patience. Very few of them will give it.
