Completed a review-article of "Wales in England, 1914-1945 A Social, Cultural & Military History" (OUP) by @wugolini for the Welsh History Review. A seminal text. The first book-length study of the Welsh at an all-England level; the first book-length study of the 2nd generation.

I think we might have had this conversation here before, but has anybody researched the cultural impact of the Italian campaign on returning service people and thus, maybe, postwar Britain more widely? Could be fascinating. @amwilson_opera is this something you've worked on?
Peter Sarris@peter_sarris

One of my great-uncles who was a London docker developed a love of Italian opera while hearing songs and records as he liberated Italy.

Thanks Merryn. It is interesting to see which groups commemorate Donnini and which do not (and how this shifts through time).
Merryn@rentaquill

@OurItalianRoots @SunderlandEcho @Terri_Colpi @SimocbPalladin @wugolini @ItalyinUK @FederationFHS … young Fsr. Dennis Donnini VC was remembered well recently, with a group following in the footsteps of the 52nd Lowland Divison (Walking With the Jocks). Here at Lind and Stein, but his grave and others are visited regularly at Sittard CWGC.

Only 15 years to the centenary of the Second World War in 2039! I hope NZ is not caught short like the main event in 1939 or like the mad rush in the lead in to the centenary of the FWW and cash being splashed willy-nilly. What was the longterm legacy of the WW100 investment? 🤔
