If you watched @HalftimeReport yesterday to hear the panelist's explanation of the $SHAK disaster (-$28) there was no contrition or admission of mistake. Little forward analysis, just memorized sound bytes from the press release. Disappointingly there was little pushback from the host or other panelists - as polishing the image is modus operandi on Fin TV. Panelists/moderators/network are rarely critical as they don't want to lose management access (in this case Danny Meyer, Shake Shack's founder.) Mistakes are dismissed as one offs, which they are not. And winners are emphasized. Today the same panelist hits an Exacta with $TOST (another long term favorite of the panelist) that is trading -$3.5 or -12% after weak guidance. Instead two winners are emphasized. Cue Bing Crosby's son "Accentuate the Positives." @KeithMcCullough @HedgeyeDJ I call B.S. because no one else does. Panelists get away with no analysis and "gut" when the tide is moving in... but Katie Bar the Doors when the tide starts going out. @dougkass
