@paulg @lefineder The local lords hid their people from conscription and taxes for local benefit over benefit to the empire. This was basically the start of feudalism.

One bizarre question that arises from reading about the fall of the Roman Empire is: "Where the hell are all the soldiers?" On paper, from documents such as the Notitia Dignitatum, the late Roman army was supposed to have had around half a million troops. Larger than ever before. Yet time and time again we see barbarian invasions overwhelm Roman defenses, with an unclear military response. And when engagements do happen, the size of the Roman army reported is often smaller than during previous periods in which the total number of troops and manpower available to the empire was supposedly smaller. So where was this vast Roman army when the Goths spent decades moving throughout the empire, or when the Rhine frontier fell in 406? Or when Rome was sacked and Britain was abandoned in 410? Or when North Africa was overwhelmed and lost? Did it just evaporate?

If I'm being honest I don't really care about decentralization If you ask 99 out of 100 people on the streets they'll agree as well People care about better products. If decentralization happens to make the product better great, but if not, delete it

hey @toly went deep on percolator's A/K. the equal per-unit haircut is clearly the right call vs an ADL queue (no one singled out, O(1), self-healing). one thing it leaves on the table: equal treats a reckless 20x account and a careful one identically when socializing a deficit. we're building a bounded risk-weight into @synthatic_trade that prices that difference reckless flow absorbs a larger share, genuine traders less while still summing to exactly the deficit and never singling anyone out. happy to share the mechanism if it's interesting.

@LoganJastremski A single owner of 100% of all the nodes distributed in the optimal way for price discovery can provide the exact same value as a decentralized system. This will only become important in the six sigma event when the owner does something bad.
