Marathon was a lot of fun at launch. But as we got purple shields, a purple backpack thermal snipers kitted bullys and 30 grenades, my friend group and I saw the games loop and during the server slam we saw it’s future very clearly. Here’s how the game’s loop works in an honest format. 95% of the playerbase are and will always be designated fodder permanently for the top 5%, their job is to farm loot for a 100 hours until they run into a top 5%er die and lose everything, which makes/made those players do that loop once and never hop on the game again because that’s their position in the games design. The top 5%’s meta for reaching that was to spam 30 grenades onto one another from the inside of a bubble shield. Your reward for reaching the top is to become the Ebola rat king and that’s just not something that I’m interested in sustaining and the vast majority of the population seems to be included. Your goal is to beat up on fodder who quit the game after dying, and eventually be greeted with the Ebola virus

Zieglers direct communication at launch was a large reason why S1 didn’t pull a Concord immediately. It was able to at least land itself some sort of a small base of hardcore-PvP centric players, that the game seems to be pivoting away from now for however long it has left 🚗⛽️

Bungie is adding a brand-new PvE mode to Marathon, but it will only be available for two weeks when it launches on July 21. The new mode, called Vault Breaker, lets you play solo or with friends as you fight AI enemies, explore the Cryo Archive map, and complete vaults packed with challenges. Bungie says the two-week run is a test to gather player feedback. If it goes well, the studio plans to make Vault Breaker a permanent mode during Season 3, with more maps and improvements.

I'm kind of tired of playing Cryo on teams. It's every weekend now I lose like a 100k from my vault trying to man up in Cryo and as a solos main I've been starting to see - I'd be making so much money in Cryo if I had didn't have teammates. Once you kind of understand the order in which you're expected to get things done to have a successful run, it becomes really frustrating to rush in and lose at least 5k, 70% of the time, because your team doesn't know what to do. It's unnecessary. Just LET us do Cryo. One thing I do find frustrating about the current META of AAA gaming - I don't like the concept of devs feeling like they need to enforce their 'vision' of a game. This is the problem - this is why we have all these games turning into movies, because these devs started to think they were film directors. Not giving people the OPTION for doing Cryo with solos is almost like suggesting they don't want you to play the game you're trying to play. It's like Doom: The Dark Ages not giving people the OPTION to play online multiplayer deathmatch.. Why? (probably because they spent too much money trying to turn that game into a movie) In fact, I've actually heard one of the devs at ID Software say the reason they sacked multiplayer was because they wanted to include things like the mech-suit, and the dragon flying scenes.... stuff NOBODY was asking for. Granted it was kind of cool, but people buy first person shooter games because they want to compete online (at least, I do)... One thing that's really cool about fighting games is they KNOW people aren't going to play the game how they intended. This is why balance patches are so important, because people are going to start doing things they couldn't have planned for in the development cycle, and they have to wait and see what broken nonsense people find - because it is literally impossible for them to know ahead of time.... Fighting game devs talk about this all the time. So it's like, they have this game called Marathon.... They want it to be a big hit, like Fortnite or Arc Raiders.... but they immediately cut the player pool by more than half by trying to enforce a vision for how the game is played, so nobody plays it (or they stopped playing)... They're like, "Cryo is our best map, but you HAVE to have a reliable team because we won't even let you play if you don't have a team.... and you have to lose at least 5k every time.." I've never played Fortnite, but do they FORCE you to play on teams? I don't think so. Marathon literally forces you, and it might actually be what's killing the game. Nobody was forcing me in Arc Raiders (although everyone works on the same team for the most part during Matriarch runs). I think part of the problem is they worry about the loot economy too much - they don't want too many people having too much gear. My first season in Arc Raiders I had around 12 million dollars... I could do WHATEVER my heart desired. That's what they need for Marathon if they want the game to succeed, and people could be like, "Well yeah, but that's not how extraction shooters work..." Does Tarkov literally FORCE you to find team to play with to play one of their maps? If they do I digress, but I'm fairly certain Tarkov is primarily intended as a game you can play without a team... And see, this might be Marathon's biggest problem and biggest fundamental flaw - because I LOVE playing solos! It's a completely unique experience in a way I don't think the devs could've planned for, because it becomes a stealth game, and it's scary! It's a creepy game. You listen for other people's footsteps creeping up on you, and it jump scares you, and I love it... I've never played a FPS game like that, and I love it... Maybe that's not what they intended, but that's what they got... they should roll with it.

@betty_egg I played a decent amount of cryo solo to try to get the 100 kills in a round when ranked was online last season and trust me It’s REALLY FUCKING HARD to get clearance 3 as a solo They could change stuff around tho, but as it is right now I had to take final exfil every time
