There’s clearly a race heating up to define the agentic standard for online payments. On one side you’ve got x402 → Coinbase × Cloudflare On the other side: MPP (Tempo) → Stripe × Visa Stripe not extending x402 is telling. Most likely: - it’s crypto-native, which doesn’t fully fit their stack - and more importantly… they want to own the standard, not plug into someone else’s This is starting to look a lot like the protocol wars / browser wars of the 90s Different rails, different incentives, same outcome: the winner defines how value moves on the internet Big question: who becomes the TCP/IP of agentic payments?
