@nekaishi @boozyfayde i think the big difference in those kind of horror games is though, that you dont have an entire crafting system where you could potentially build weapons. in subnautica you do

@boozyfayde Oh yeah I actually just said this exact thing on another comment actually before seeing yours haha I agree. All the best horror games I’ve played have made the player helpless to defend themselves, which builds genuine dread and fear

@Kalebjayboss why’d they make a survival game if they didn’t want survival themes? they shoulda made a wet animal crossing

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 then they should also take into account that a group of people will be very displeased with that decision. and will lose even more of players by throwing out messages like "if you dont like it, go play the forest". THATS disingenuous in my opinion.

Sometimes devs do not take into account what players are gonna do with a tool, and if it result in something that they don’t want to promote that they have a clear stance against they either patch it or make it clear that in the next installment is not gonna be present, because of course changing something that is already establish on a game may result in negative feedback, but for honesty they have been very clear that at some point they weren’t gonna include it on the new titles.

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 also whats immersion breaking to you, does not have to be to others. you cant expect everyone to have the same experience. devs give you the tools to play the game. how you use them, should be up to the player. (as long as it doesnt harm other players of course)

No sorry but no one spend 20 minutes to kill a leviathan using glitches and hitting them 170 times with a knife, it was never an enjoyable experience, you are being completely disingenuous trying to force a mechanics that was never design to fit the game, no one’s like to spend that much time killing a single mob using glitches that are immersion breaking. This is an overreaction to the current game, the current game is clearly being enjoyed by the majority

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 yes, people enjoy it. and others dont, who were used to being able to defend themselves. now they dont have only 2 parties (those who like and those who dislike the game) now they have a third one: those who used to like it and now dont.

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 im not trying to force anything. im just trying to dismantle your argument as to why it happened in the first one and allegedly couldnt be changed afterwards if that was "not supposed to do what it was doing". it was seemingly not a big deal breaker to take it out afterwards.

@skullyz_z @TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 at least thats a better, logical take than simply saying "it was never meant to be like this, but was nonetheless"? XD that would at least be a better excuse if they had some spagetthi code that would have fucked it all up (though technically maybe increase the hp to infinite)

@xXArsenXx @TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 And so there is alot of room for the game to just break potentially and why the second game allowed them to go the non killing path more faithfully. This is just my own speculation though.

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 after everyone who played the first one, is now used to being able to defend themselves. its stupid, plain and simple.

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 we have the answer, its that they were talking out of their ass like i said previously. because they could have either removed the HP bar or made it impossible to deal damage. so "now" they enforce what they allegedly envisioned for the first one into the new one

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 so not only were they clearly talking out of their ass (if they actually said that about the knife) cause it would make 0 logical sense to say that while still having HP bars for them in the game, but you also regurgitate said thing. (im praying you know how dumb it sounds)

As I said ask them, is not like I have direct contact with the devs to answer every single questions I only have the current information that is available, for my understanding is that they simple stopped updating their first game to focus on the new ones. But again I’m not a dev they never intended for players to exploit the knife to kill the leviathan either glitches and similar exploits

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 okay, then why say "the knife wasnt supposed to be a lethal weapon" so confidently? i mean they could have patched it out any time they wanted.. clearly that was not the case?

@xXArsenXx @Daikazo2 Ask them, I’m not a dev I’m just telling you what they said back in 2020 , probkabky because they where a small and inexperienced team of developers let’s not forgot that subnautica was their first game they are also very active in discord to respond to any question s

@TheSystem_0 @Daikazo2 kind of a dumb take. if that was their stance even in the first game and they "didnt expect anyone to pull it off" then why add a lifebar or make it killable in the first place?

The knife wasn’t suppose to be a lethal weapon used to kill literally Lovecraftian abominations, it literally toke 170 hits to kill a ghost leviathan and you would have to use exploits and glitch in order to block it from moving so it wouldn’t eat your ass. In 2018 they said they didn’t expect anyone to actually pull it off and that in the future they would have to restrict it even more This always been their stance

Subnautica 2 devs say "go play Sons of the Forest" if you don't like its lack of violence. The game focuses on underwater exploration, and you cannot kill most creatures. On the official Discord, one player asked why killing is impossible in SN2 as it makes no sense. Level designer Artyom O’Rielly replied, “This is not a killing game, so go play Sons of the Forest if you want to kill.” Another developer said, “The team discusses this a lot inside the studio and may let players catch small fish for food, but large creatures will stay safe so the game feels right.” This idea comes from the first Subnautica, as the team wants players to discover things, feel wonder, and live with ocean life instead of fighting it. A fan-made mod already lets players kill creatures, and the studio is reading all feedback. It plans to add better ways to scare off creatures but will not add weapons. Early access is expected to last up to 3 years.

@MessItUp82 @Grummz i kind of get it but... its still kinda dumb. especially when you are able to craft tools. thats why i dont play horror games where you cant defend yourself. i just hate this feeling of helplessness. i guess the players will speak out if they dont like it and maybe change it

Subnautica 2 is a pacifist ideology woven into a game. Players have noticed you cannot defend yourself against attacking fish. Not even in self defense. Only passive means are available. This was by design. You can't kill anything because the devs feel it would support gun violence and aspects of colonialism: "Subnautica is one vote towards a world with less guns. A reminder that there is another way forward." "We want people to feel like they're learning to adapt to the world, rather than being a conqueror or dominator." "We aren't a killing game. Go play Sons of the Forest or something if you want to kill." The anti-violence stance got stronger from Subnautica 1 -> 2, which now has a complete "no kill" policy even when the fish can still kill *you*.

@jifferey to me its incredibly stupid in a game where you can craft and build stuff. like "i have the ability to craft a spear but id prefer using my knowledge to reinforce a wall that i would have to repair over and over again instead of getting rid of the threat". this aint outlast.

@Grummz reading this actually drives me more towards NOT buying it. being at the mercy of a 100ft leviathan and not being able to do anything but run and/or tank hits seems absurd to me. especially in a game where you can craft tools. this isnt outlast

@MessItUp82 @Grummz i get there should be a level of suspense there. and by all means those huge fuckers shouldnt be easy to kill. but having seemingly no option to defend yourself except maybe with "build better armor" seems... eh.. just my opinion though.

@Grummz Its because in sub 1 people would just kill all the fish so they didn't have to deal with them. Even the leviathan could be killed and it wouldn't respawn. They wanted the fear of whats in the dark water to stay throughout the whole game thus time
