They are learning Greek mythology from a director who evidently read Homer through a broken Google Translate filter. Thanks to this film, a terrifying number of people are going to walk away genuinely believing that three random monkeys were pivotal figures in the Bronze Age.

The real tragedy of Nolan’s #TheOdyssey isn't whether it’s a cinematic masterpiece or a dumpster fire. The true horror is that an entire generation of kids, along with adults whose literary diet maxes out at cereal boxes, will accept this as gospel.

I just came out of seeing The Odyssey. Unfortunately, I only got to watch it in a standard cinema and didn't get to experience it in IMAX in all its glory. Even so, I made sure to see it on day one because my expectations were incredibly high, and I'm happy to say they were completely met. I'm also a huge fan of mythology, and I think this film delivers one of the best portrayals of it without ever fully showing the gods. I loved and hated that choice because it kept everything grounded while still embracing the mystery and mysticism surrounding the story but hated due to me studied a lot of mythology, my greed left me wanting to see all the lores 😭 Cyclops scene got my emotions all worked up for the wrong reasons.... And the Hades scene, chefs kiss. There was a lot of noise leading up to this movie, but I feel like all of that disappears the moment you immerse yourself in the soundscape and the story. Sadly, I didn't get to experience it at its full scale, but I completely understand why everyone who saw it in its peak format has been singing its praises. This doesn't feel like just a film, more so an experience, one that's elevated even more when seen at its full potential. My only issue is that many people around the world won't get to experience it that way. So the fact I still found it phenomenal in a standard cinema says a lot. I will say this, and it's just my opinion, the first 20 to 30 minutes are a very slow burn, almost to the point where you start wondering where it's going. But once it kicks in, it literally Sparta kicks in. For me, this is one of my favourite performances I've ever seen from Matt Damon. Is it the greatest movie of all time like many are saying? Not for me. But I do think it's one of those films that will be mentioned on many "Top" lists for years to come. Nolan created so many scenes, so many frames, that felt like pure art. As an artist, it was incredibly inspiring to watch, observe, and absorb. Everyone that did their thing, standing slow clap 👏 I'd like to end with this. Agamemnon is the biggest aura farmer I've seen in a long time. 😅 Go enjoy, form your own views on it!
