@DamonZumbroegel @terry_therrell Awesome ! These are insights I was looking for, I want to know more about these techniques so when I build my own i can tell my architect - dont build a box, build something beautiful and inspiring

@terry_therrell @xaskdev My details for packing out the i beams were important to me. Spoke teak pack out, or left alone. Guest steel frame home in Burma. Home took maybe…..5 years start to finish. Pics….different ways I treated the I Beams in different parts of the home.

I designed every window on this project, and each one was hand made from solid teak in our shop. My life and the “window schedule” in a few pictures……..

Yes, from this point in my career…..I will. Up to this point, the last 40 years of architecture, I was simply doing it. Becoming an architect. I didn’t photo much at all. Maybe 5% of my projects even were photographed at all. No web site, no phone, hand drawn and designed. I was just doing it. Now….I am a real architect. Now I know my craft, and from here on I will document and share. Thus I am on the first social media app of my career. This one! Here I am sharing! The projects I’m doing now I am documenting. In fact I just bought a phone for the first time in ten years. Just to document.

Yes….many things done to make a “perfect” window. The Guru of Wood and I spent a long time designing these windows and doors. I had a chance to finally make windows and doors how I thought they should be. I had the materials and the skilled labor set, so I simply worked my ass off to design them. The team and I together had massive experience under our collective belt, so we went for it. Lots of mach ups, and fails, and in the end…..the windows and doors of this house are works of art. Each and every one of them. And yes…..we used natural materials…..wood…..so there is always a chance for nature to get into it, but…..i believe we did the best one can do. We also had the hardware sets imported from Germany. The best hardware I’ve ever seen to date. I believe this was a “once in a career” project, so I made sure to make the best of it.

@DamonZumbroegel Was there anything done to make the not deform during the rains ? It's quite expected to see doors and windows deform slightly during the rains due to humidity, They start to close tighter, need more force.

@xaskdev Best windows I have ever installed in 30 plus years. Tight as can be. Amazing craftsmanship. They have not had one problem in any season. We made them for this home, and for the place they are in. We set out to make a perfect window for Yangon, and I believe we did.

Which will be is better ? We have been building concrete roads here for the last few years, Specially in the villages, But using TMT steel mesh for reinforcement. They don't break in the monsoon s, We like it, It's not as smooth to drive though. Indian has been creating some sections of the highways too this way.

How about we just make a concrete road here? -Road building in Pokhara Nepal. How about we try this method in the USA? I’m sure it’s up to code?

@DamonZumbroegel 😂 indians taking it way to seriously ! The best Indian food in any part of India is cooked inside homes of people, As you already know it's easy to get invited ! No restaurant is going to match that

Does India have good food? Here’s a short story: I was in Delhi staying at one of the nicest hotels in town. I went to the lovely Concierge and asked where might I find the best Indian food. He looked at me, bobbled his head and said, “My Dear Sir, for the best Indian food, you will have to go to London”.

Well said We are learning these busy habits really fast in India, As you already know, There still are places in india where you can see this, But those people now want to come to the cities, I also understand why. I observe all this, but don't have a good solution to either ones. The "hope" is AI becomes the busy body and we are are left to be humans again.

If the West could only settle down a bit, and “be in Life”. In the West everyone is so busy trying to get it all done……..before what? Who set some dreadful deadline that you have to get it all done in time? Rushing here and there and…..maybe getting no where. Then……I’ll find myself in some random village, in remote Western Nepal, in the back of a stone hut waiting for my Dal Bhat, and I get to spend some time with a human…….just being human. Still doing her work, still making life happen…….but smiling as she weaves her life into yarn that will one day be a blanket for her kids. So simple……and ENOUGH! Life is enough folks…..why pile on deadlines until eternity? Why set yourself up each day to drive your body into an early coffin? Why not sit back and smile a bit more?

I don't want to architect my home myself, I want to review an architects work give him feedback, in a cycle. This is a classic mistake of the creator mindset. Not everybody wants to build or create, they have other things to focus on. This kind of discussion has been happening on software engineering circles for the last 3 years, It just changes the job style, the job still exists. What is true is that the real artists are rewarded disproportionately

“No one can play the piano like Mozart, but everyone can play the scales like Mozart” ……AND AI can play the scales better than any human. This quote sums up AI’s coming role in the field of Architecture. I predict AI in the next 3-5 years will eliminate 97% of jobs in my field of architecture. I predict anyone who is not a real trained architect, making designs from their own human, will simply have no job in the field of architecture. Human drafting or rendering using AutoCad or other programs, etc. …..will no longer be needed. I also predict the incredible shift to more beautiful buildings throughout the world, for anyone will be able to simply plug their site and project needs into AI, tell it to design in the “ethos and style” of Damon Zumbroegel or Frank Lloyd Wright, and in moments you will have a decent design, renderings, construction documents, material lists, and everything you need. If you don’t like it, you can make a simple prompt and it will change the entire thing for you…..in moments. This will give anyone and everyone free, fast, and easy access to good design. This is RIGHT NOW PEOPLE! NOT TOMORROW.

As a curious tech person over the years I have enrolled in 100s(literally) of courses from Plant Biology to Aircraft Design on coursera / NPTEL but after a few days I lost momentum and never completed any one of those. Live in-person cohorts where you take out dedicated 8 hours out of your busy life, focus completely, - have a instructor mentor you - can talk, brainstorm and debate with others people - network, have a healthy competition and a collective sense of accomplishment - build things hands-on are really the fastest way to learn in this short attention span economy! Don’t buy another course you won’t finish. Spend one day, do a deep dive into Gen AI and build real AI agents live. I miss struggling for days or even weeks on a single problem. Those were golden times for gaining passion and knowledge

If you want to buy a Porsche, buy it. Even if it is just to signal status. Don’t listen to anybody. I didn’t buy it, and buying it now wouldn’t be me again at 25 driving it. That moment has gone. Calculating every move and trying to make everything perfect was so dumb. So dumb. Play status games. Make mistakes. Don't try to get rid of your ego early. Experience all that while it matters. There will be plenty of time later to become a shitposter philosopher. At least you will have something to post about.
