I mean it's more complicated than that, but I think mostly in ways cutting in favor of blockbusters. You know, IDK if "Tron: Ares" sold any toys, but I'm pretty sure "The Housemaid" didn't...thankfully...

I don't have a take on millions of people I haven't met. I'm surprised so many of you do.

I actually like the OP's spirit. But you know, just be intentional and proactive, even with "only three websites". Have you seen all of these.

A lot has changed obviously. But if you spend all your time watching terrible Reels or whatever, don't whine that it's because of structural forces. You can do other things. Many people do.

Something I didn’t realize before is the 19th century “lecture” circuit was basically just mark twain going around doing standup comedy

But at a minimum I think if the claim is that some places are under-staffed because of market distortions like monopolies then presumably some other places are OVER-staffed, and what are the signs of that. (Or is that the low-paying precarious work mentioned.)

Well I'm not saying macro stats tell the whole story either, just that we should try to reconcile everything. EG I don't think your piece is directly about the pay of workers, unless increasing their pay would go with more hours or more/different tasks. x.com/i/status/20346…
Robin Kaiser-Schatzlein@robinsreport

@xenocryptsite You raise some interesting points, but I don't think the macro statistics can capture the trend. Maybe "widespread" doesn't mean it exists everywhere across the job market. Tons of people can be absorbed by low-paid and precarious work, doesn't mean jobsites are fully staffed.

This is interesting but logically, if you think there's "widespread under-staffing" despite the prime-age employment rate being near historic highs, then you need to reallocate the "missing workers" from somewhere else (or have an even higher employment rate, longer hours...).
Robin Kaiser-Schatzlein@robinsreport

1/ As I reported my book, I noticed something that has completely changed American life: widespread chronic under-staffing. It leads to, among other things, deadly medication errors at pharmacies, flight delays, messy stores, and the crime wave. From me today @TheProspect
