@anon_opin yes what nonsense, like putting 'hi' in the group chat each morning is now your virtual clock in and signals you're working on the clock 😂

Everyone writing 'Good morning' every single morning on a work Slack just ensures that I will ignore the first hour of messages that come in every morning. Completely pointless and annoying.

London looking like this is a national disgrace. Rubbish piled across the streets. Graffiti everywhere. Filth becoming normalised in our capital city. What happened to people taking care of the place they live in? This isn’t the Britain many of us grew up in and people are tired of watching standards collapse while politicians pretend everything is fine.

@Jenny_1884 why is so much soil getting washed from the private land over the pavement and into this council drain i wonder, or this fell off a landscaping truck in an accident or something and it's the accident crew not cleaning up properly or notifying the responsible who knows

@tomhfh a tower block of mansions doesn't free up a tower block of key worker flats though, cause the fancy ones are bought up for vacant speculation and are bigger than the normal ones so less of them

Why are investment bankers living in two up two downs in South London that were built for manual labourers? Because we haven’t built enough luxury housing. When we don’t build luxury homes, the houses that used to be for the everyman become the preserve of the elite. And everyone else moves *down* the chain. By building luxury homes we can move everyone *up* that chain.
Britain Remade@BritainRemade

Building "luxury flats" actually makes housing more affordable for everyone. It's an effect shown in studies around the world. The chains created by people moving into high end properties free up homes all the way down the ladder.

@tomhfh @lb_southwark yes you make a good point tom they shouldn't just reject their poor proposal they should make their own better proposal, to build what the local people want and do it themselves if a developer won't

📣 Southwark Council welcomes news that plans by Berkeley Homes for the Aylesham Centre have been rejected. Berkeley Homes proposed to build 867 homes, including 77 affordable homes, at the site in Peckham alongside retail, leisure and commercial space. Today a planning inspector has dismissed an appeal by Berkeley Homes, saying “benefits do not outweigh the harm to the relevant designated heritage assets important to the area”. Cllr Sarah King, Leader of Southwark Council, said: “This is a great day for Peckham and we welcome the planning inspector’s decision to dismiss Berkeley Homes’s appeal for the Aylesham Centre. “I’d like to personally thank the community who spoke loud and clearly about their concerns. “We shared those concerns and strongly argued at the public inquiry that the scheme was poorly designed and our position has been vindicated. “We will read the appeal in detail and carefully consider our next steps.”

@Slovdave @BenRamanauskas people are spending a lower portion of their earnings on foreign holidays than ever too, but that doesn't mean 'holidays are cheaper now', it just means people are cutting back on them and spending less to get less of them

@Slovdave @BenRamanauskas yes i am very clear that you think all categories of food are cheaper than ever as a proportion of income you are perhaps confusing how much people spend on food as a portion of their whole wage packet and what a given item of fresh food costs (esp relative to disposable income)

@xeode @BenRamanauskas Read my posts. Food.....all of it....is cheaper now as a proportion of earnings, than it has ever been. I don't know how much more simple I can make this, mate?

Has anyone yet invented an internet connected washing machine? It would be handy to see if I remembered to turn mine on from my phone while I'm out - to operate it remotely, and see how long is left on any given wash cycle.

If you start a new supermarket, you should just put an apostrophe and S on the end of the name, because that's what everyone is going to call it anyway.

@andrew_lilico yes mandating certain prices on businesses but not mandate how much their suppliers can charge them is bonkers, they should just have state owned groceries if they want to do that not just pluck a price out of the air for private businesses to stick to

So the government is setting the price of food now? What next? Food rationing? I *absolutely* do not want food prices capped. Why on Earth would I want supermarkets to sell out of the food I want to buy, so it's not available for me (which is what capped food prices will mean)?
