Once, when the world was filled with darkness and confusion, devotees prayed to Lord Jagannath for guidance. A poor devotee, with nothing but pure devotion, offered just a handful of flowers. While kings brought gold and jewels, it was the humble offering that pleased the Lord the most. That night, Jagannath appeared in the devotee’s dream and said, “I see not what you give, but the love with which you give.” From then on, people understood that true devotion is beyond wealth—it lies in sincerity.
