We demand that UNFCCC and the Brazilian authorities do not instrumentalise the protest on Tuesday when indigenous people sought to enter #COP30. We fear they may try to prevent legitimate protests outside the walls of COP30.
These protests must go on. They are a fundamental expression of those who do not have the privileges and the passes to enter COP30.
Civil disobedience is a right and a central dimension of the rule of law – it is how non-elite voices are amplified, it is how governments can be held accountable, it how power can be made to course correct.
The capacity of protesting outside and inside COP30 is a fundamental guarantee of COP30 success.
