Well, not to sound too pessimistic, but a new battery is a low cost service, so they might not've seen it as worth their time. To give them the benefit of the doubt though, it's also possible they tested its voltage, and it was on the lower end of acceptable tolerances, so still a "pass." Another real possibility is a bad or failing alternator, which will degrade every battery you install over time, faster than it would normally lose capacity. My shade tree mechanic recommendation would be a new battery, unless you want to buy a cheap multimeter so you can check the voltage between the terminals. Should be in the high 12volt range if the car's been off overnight. A free thing you can do is check the battery terminals now and see if they're loose, corroded, anything like that. Usually these things are a frustratingly simple fix, so it's not where we initially think to look.

its getting hot out which means my car has started doing that thing where it refuses to start until the 3rd try, do i take it to a mechanic for the 5th time just for them to say they dont know or do i just hope it lasts another summer

@HasJobAndBennys also id agree with the shops part but when ive taken it to several, and also had oil changes in between where they do a check up, would they have noticed a need for a new battery?

@HasJobAndBennys check engine light, ETC light also sometimes comes on with them, sometimes not, and they always go away when i turn it off and back on if it starts successfully

@HasJobAndBennys nope! drives fine other than the issue with starting, also i forgot to mention that sometimes when it fails to start the service power steering warning comes on if that means anything idk

@HasJobAndBennys ive taken it to a few, theyve all said my battery, alternator, starter, whatever you'd usually check in that scenario are fine. one couldnt even replicate the issue. the shop my new job uses for company vehicles will be my next stop probably if i take it again

@xxxrayspex Did they check the battery voltage, and do you have a voltmeter? It may be weaker with it being warm outside which would allow for auxiliary things to run, but not always enough to turn the engine over. What has your shop done when you’ve taken it to get looked at?

@HasJobAndBennys like constant turning, then the engine will fail to start but the electrical will be on. if i give it another try or two it eventually starts. key also gets stuck in ignition like the ignition locks up. only acts up in the summer its perfectly fine with mild/cold weather 🤷🏻‍♀️
