There’s no such thing as a loss when entering to win prizes with a sweepstakes sponsor. Any $ redeemed is winnings and is subject to receiving a 1099. There’s nothing for the operator to net against in determining when to send you a 1099, because you never risked any money.

Warn others…about how taxes work? Again: there is no such thing as “profit” when using a sweepstakes site. There’s purchases, and then there’s redemptions. The two cannot be netted. Fliff is issuing 1099s correctly. Any sweeps sponsor not issuing 1099s based on gross redemptions is misleading their own users into incorrectly filing taxes. This is one of the reasons @sporttrade_app did not launch a sweeps product.
