On the contrary I think there’s immense pride that I and many other Black Americans feel about what our ancestors survived. We should always acknowledge our contributions and tell the full story.

I get why so many folks were upset with Shaboozey’s speech, but me personally, I wish the “my people built this country” spiel would die. There’s nothing endearing about the fact that so much wealth and institutions were built off the backs of slave labor.
