Every day on the YACF field is an opportunity to make these ideas approachable, relatable, and real for Ghanaian children in ways they can carry with them long after the session ends.

Novelty opens the door. Exploring anatomical figures, guided conversations and watching engaging videos: each moment is designed to keep students engaged, asking, and discovering. When it feels different, it sticks.

B is for Boundaries. The things we sing have a way of sticking, shaping how we think, speak, and act. So we use music to make respect for boundaries feel natural, memorable, and lived.

At every YACF session, a different kind of classroom takes shape; one where consent is demonstrated, not just explained. Where questions are met with eager hands, not hesitation, and where attention is earned, not forced.

What's striking about the example the facilitator used is the core factor of "respect". A student asks, a teacher says "yes" or "no". That same principle carries into how we relate to others. Boundaries & consent aren't just about asking, but about honouring the answer too.

We’ve tried to teach bodies, boundaries, and consent like subjects to memorise and pass. But real understanding doesn’t work that way. It grows through play, curiosity, mistakes, and conversation — something to truly know and carry, not just pass.

Watching our 6-12 year olds navigate these lessons with such care reminds us why this work matters. It’s one thing to hear about your body in relation to personal space and boundaries, and it’s another to build that understanding with your own two hands.

April is a time when many conversations focus on safety. You Are Cared For is the intervention focused on protecting children early, gently and intentionally. The conversations the world is having now? We’ve already been doing it in classrooms.

Proud of what they’ve learned, and confident enough to show it. Moments like these remind us why our work matters.

Before stepping into someone’s space, you ask. And whatever the response is, you respect it. Understanding boundaries doesn’t have to be abstract. It can be this simple, this visible, this real. This is how children begin to understand boundaries in practice.

Beyond the lessons, something else is built in the field: trust, openness, and a quiet sense of connection between facilitators, students, and teachers. The work brings us into classrooms, but it’s the relationships formed along the way that make the learning possible.

Growing up doesn’t automatically come with understanding. Conversations about the body, boundaries, and consent need to be guided. That’s why the work we do with You Are Cared For matters.

Some lessons shape how we move and relate with others through life. There may be small classroom conversations today, but they help build safer, more confident young people tomorrow.

The day’s lesson on consent came with rhythm — and the class picked up every line in no time. Sometimes the most important lessons travel best through music.

The lesson begins with a short video introducing Boundaries, showing how personal space and respect appear in everyday situations. From there, the class moves into discussion — and soon students begin explaining the idea back in their own words.

When children understand their bodies, recognize personal boundaries, and learn the meaning of consent, they grow with the confidence to speak up, ask questions, and protect themselves. It really does start with three simple letters: A, B, C.
