Hey there, I preferred to remain quiet until now, but I know that I cannot ignore the various concerns you may have regarding me and UltimateGDBot. I will start by confirming that yes, there has been one (and only one) occurence of me using the bot to pull out conversation data. Firstly, unlike what has been spread, this incident actually happened on September 2020 when both F3lixsram and Yakimaru got unmodded, so more than a year after I got mod. Secondly, my motivation had nothing to do with reporting mod chat leaks to higher ups. The event itself is true: at some point Pauze did ask me to check if mod chat leaks were present in Epix Cats server (team of French creators owned by F3lixsram). But I was still a member of the server at that moment, so I just sent screenshots of what I found directly, I didn't need the bot for that. What happened next is that I got banned from their server soon after, followed by death treats and humiliation from EC members in my DMs. As someone quite susceptible I was feeling attacked personally, at that point I just wanted one thing : get the Epix Cats server deleted by reporting the various Discord ToS violations that their members have committed. Since I was banned, the idea of using the bot came to my mind. I downloaded the message history in order to collect the message IDs necessary to file a report to Discord support for ToS violation. It is important to note that this part of the story is purely the result of an emotional reaction on my end, and did not involve the mod team at all. So what now? As of August 31, 2022, it is no longer possible for bots to access message history of servers the way I did back then. Discord improved privacy for bots, now developers need to fill an application form in order to be allowed to access message data, explaining why exactly your bot needs it. Since none of the UltimateGDBot features requires this access, I did not request it. So if a similar situation were to happen today, I would not be able to do it, even if I wanted to. I started developing this bot back in 2018, I obviously never expected such a growth and I never deemed necessary to write a privacy policy for it. Dealing with user data was not something natural for me, that was my first experience of it. But lesson learned, I'm planning to do that after updating the bot for GD 2.2. I will still be reserving the right to use collected data for Discord ToS reporting purposes, because I believe that falls under common sense and in that regard I do not have any remorse regarding the EC incident, but that's it. This is the problem of the centralized internet we have today: you are forced to trust the one running the online service in order to use it. But I believe true freedom is the choice to trust or not to trust. That's why I offer you two options. You may just continue to use the bot as you normally do... Or use one of the following alternatives: - If you are only interested in the rating announcement feature, you don't need to have the bot in your server.
