@walaber @shamansnail To expand on alternatives, I think games like Verlet Swing or other games centered around Grappling around make alot of sense here too. Youre "shooting" something but its a hook to attach yourself to a surface.

@shamansnail @__YALP This is why I wish there were more photo-taking games! It’s the same interaction, can be very tense in terms of timing etc. Fatal Frame has always interested me in this regard. There was also a PS3 safari game called “Africa” that was super cool.

Unfortunately, it seems for most game designers, their way to make it a game is: "add gun." ☹️

Game developers see the world creatively. They see someone mowing their lawn and think "that'd make a good game". They go to file their taxes and think "this would make a fun game". They see a leaf tumbling down the road and think "there's a game idea there".

@bombsfall Im seeing what you mean now, yeah they probs do need to switch it up to improve how engaging they are. Maybe reduce frequency and design them around something other than items. I feel like Frenzy from Bloodborne is a "successful" status effect here....
