Happy World Rabies Day! Rabies is a deadly virus that's 100% preventable but also nearly 100% fatal once symptoms kick in. It claims tens of thousands of lives every year, mostly from dog bites in places where vaccination isn't widespread. Here's everything you need to know to stay safe and protect yourself, your family and your dogs. Share this with your people. Let's end rabies together! WHY RABIES IS SO DANGEROUS Rabies attack the brain and nervous system, leading to death if untreated. Once you show signs like fever, confusion, or fear of water, it's too late. Survival is EXTREMELY rare. But the good news? We can stop it before it starts! STEP-BY-STEP: HOW TO PREVENT RABIES 1. Vaccinate your pets: Get your dogs (and cats) their rabies shots on schedule. It's the best shield for them and you. 2. Avoid wild or stray animals: Don't feed or touch bats, raccoons, or unknown dogs. Rabies spread through the saliva of these animals via bites or scratches. 3. Supervise kids and pets: Keep an eye on playtime outdoors to prevent surprise encounters. 4. If you deal with a lot of dogs, get pre-exposure vaccines if needed. HOW TO SPOT A DOG WITH RABIES (and What to Do) If you're observant, you'll know a rabid dog when you see one. Rabid dogs act weird. Watch for these red flags: 1. Foaming at the mouth or excessive drooling 2. Aggressive behavior, like unprovoked snapping or biting. 3. Biting things like trees, iron, statues and so on aggressively 4. Staggering, paralysis, or seizures 5. Fear of water (hydrophobia) or sudden shyness. If you see a dog like this? Back away slowly. Don't run, scream, or make eye contact. Give it space and alert authorities (or community members, if you live in Nigeria). A rabid dog has to be put down. There's no two ways about it. WHAT TO DO IF YOU'RE BITTEN BY A DOG Act fast o! Time is everything! 1. Wash the wound: Rinse with soap and water for at least 15 minutes to flush out the virus. 2. Seek medical help ASAP: Head to a doctor or ER immediately for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). This is a series of shots that can save your life if given before symptoms. 3. Get the dog quarantined and call veterinarians so that they can test it for rabies. 4. Monitor for symptoms: Even with treatment, watch for signs and follow up with your doc. Remember, even if the dog seems friendly or vaccinated, get checked. It's better to be safe than sorry! Lastly, vaccinate, educate, and share this post far and wide! Tainkyu ✌🏾

Congratulations to my dear brother, Aliko Dangote, on the success achieved so far since the Dangote Refinery commenced operations. It is a historic leap for Nigeria’s energy independence and economic future. But more importantly, credit must go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for doing what no other leader before him had the political will to execute, the full deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector. This singular act has broken the grip of entrenched interests and ushered in a new era of transparency, healthy competition, and customer-centric service delivery. In a sector long plagued by rent-seeking, subsidy fraud, product diversion, and smuggling, this reform marks a decisive break from the past and lays the foundation for a more efficient and accountable energy market. Yet despite this progress, there are still voices clinging to the old ways. Voices determined to resist change, even when it’s clear the tide has turned. I’ve followed recent commentary around fuel supply issues and feel compelled to provide some perspective, especially as it relates to the future of this country, which remains threatened by entrenched cabals who still believe they can block the winds of reform. But history has shown time and again: you can delay change, frustrate it, even sabotage it but you can never stop it. I founded DAPPMAN in 2002 (23 years ago) with a clear mission, to challenge the dominance of the major marketers and give independent depot owners a fair platform to thrive. I personally structured the group, appointing the late George Enenmoh, then MD of Ascon Oil, as Chairman, while I served as Vice Chairman and Sayyu Dantata as Secretary. At the time, depot ownership was strategic. We were filling critical supply gaps left by an inefficient system. But times have changed. Many of the original players have exited the scene, and those left are clinging to assets that no longer reflect today’s business realities . I advised some of them as far back as last year to sell their depots as scrap while they still had value. Nigeria now has over 4 million metric tons of storage capacity, most of it idle. With the Dangote Refinery now supplying fuel locally, the old business model is crumbling. Zenon Oil pioneered the modern diesel business in Nigeria and grew to become the largest supplier in the country. We built depots to store our imported diesel because the market was import-driven and riddled with inefficiencies. But with Dangote’s refinery fully operational, those gaps no longer exist. We now have domestic production and local supply efficient, reliable, and proudly Nigerian. Furthermore, we must not fail to recognise the attendant benefits of eliminating the grid lock around the Ibafon , Tincan and Apapa areas due to the operations of the Dangote Refinery. More than just producing fuel, Aliko has elevated the entire logistics chain. He has purchased 8,000 brand new CNG eco-friendly trucks that will distribute across the country with less pollution and fewer breakdowns, unlike the aging, rickety trucks still used by some operators. I know this business intimately. I was king of it and at the peak of it in 2005 (20 years ago) , I was conferred with the life patron of the PTD union by Mr Akinlaja. So, when I say the game has changed, I speak from deep experience.

For those who may not be aware, Egg Freezing is an attempt at fertility preservation. Modern women want to play “oringo,” like Tiwa, until they are nearing 50, a menopause age where childbirth is difficult or impossible. To avoid childlessness and ensure they give birth, still, they extract their eggs and store them in a place, for later use, when “oringo” life don tire them and they wish to bear a child. It sounds good, especially to our Lagos baddies and Abuja nightlifers. However, not all that glitters is gold. What Tiwa Savage isn't telling you is that, when you freeze your eggs, you run the risk of not carrying your baby in your (own) womb, anymore. Your childbirth may only happen through an unnatural process called IVF. So, you may not be privileged to the warmth, priceless feeling of carrying your baby in your womb. The biological connection with your baby will be lost. The more eggs you extract and freeze, the fewer you have, especially after you have turned 30. So, if anything happens to the extracted eggs, otilor. You may become a barren madam. More so, the eggs you freeze can only be fertilized through IVF, where sperm is injected into your eggs, through a synthetic, artificial process. Lastly, freezing eggs is super expensive. It costs approximately $10k. Unless you want to do the Ajegunle style, where they'll infect your egg with “a lifetime kro kro,” through unsterilized needles. The only solution is that you take your relationships seriously. Be a good woman, find and submit to a good young man who has future plans and works very hard at them. Settle down with him, and start giving birth early. If you sell yourself to “oringo” life in your 20s and 30s, your childbirth may not be guaranteed when the hand of the clock turns red. Hope this helps. ✍️

We are in Itasa in Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State. It is a land rich with abundant mineral resources, yet constrained by aggressive poverty. But perhaps the most urgent concern is not what lies beneath the ground, but those who now occupy the forest. Residents report a surge in insecurity linked to illegal mining. Heavily armed militants and bandits, many allegedly from the northern parts of Nigeria and neighboring West African countries, have taken up residence in the forests around Itasa. They serve as informal guards for illegal mining sites, guarding wealth that belongs to no one and everyone at once. We could not have gone into the forest part of the land without the security cover provided by the Oyo State Security Network (Amotekun). In this pictures we were capturing drone views of the communities developing around mining sites in the forest.
