📄 | 260419 | Steady Progress and Embracing Challenges: Uno Racing Team Completes China GT Shanghai Opening Race.
From April 18th to 19th, the inaugural race of the new season of the China GT Championship kicked off at the Shanghai International Circuit. As the first competition of the new season, this event brought together numerous top GT3 cars and outstanding drivers, including many top domestic and international drivers, making for an exceptionally fierce competition and a huge test for every participating team. Uno Racing Team went all out to meet this high-profile challenge, facing the rigors of the race and gaining valuable experience!
After weathering the challenges of complex pre-race conditions, the qualifying and race sessions were blessed with clear skies. The No. 85 car featured Wang Yibo and Melvin Moh, a new duo that showed promising chemistry during pre-season preparations. For Wang Yibo, this weekend marked his debut in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, with both the team and driver adapting to the new car and setup.
In the first race on Saturday afternoon, the two drivers faced off in their first official competition as a team. The race was complex, and the battle was fierce. The No. 85 car prioritized a stable finish, and Melvin made steady progress in the first half of the race. Unfortunately, during the pit stop halfway through the race, the No. 85 car failed to meet the minimum pit stop time requirement and had to go through the pit lane, requiring a change in race strategy. Despite this minor setback, the team persevered and pushed forward, ultimately securing seventh place in the AM+ class in the first round.
Following Saturday's race, during a comprehensive overhaul of the car, the team discovered worn-out parts that prevented the car from reaching its optimal performance settings, thus hindering its full potential. To ensure the smooth running of the race, the team, despite limited spare parts inventory, promptly replaced the worn-out components and worked diligently to eliminate the malfunction, striving to be in top condition for Sunday's competition.
Entering the second round of the race on Sunday, Wang Yibo was in charge of driving at the start. He performed steadily at the start, maintaining his position while gradually increasing the pace of the race. Subsequently, the No. 85 car quickly entered the competitive group of its class and successfully overtook several cars with an excellent performance, improving its overall ranking.
As the race progressed, the car's tires wore down significantly, and the car's stability gradually decreased. Wang Yibo did his best to maintain control under these conditions, and during a pit stop halfway through the race, he smoothly handed the car over to his teammate Melvin. Melvin then tried to pick up the pace and catch up with the cars ahead, but due to the car's struggles, he found it difficult to improve his ranking in the intense competition. Nevertheless, by the time they crossed the finish line, the No. 85 car had secured sixteenth place overall and fourth in the AM+ class, bringing a perfect end to their first race of the new season.
The new season's first race has concluded, with Uno Racing Team completing their first competitive experience in Shanghai. With accumulated experience and a steady improvement in the team's performance, Uno Racing Team will continue to optimize car performance in the upcoming China GT series, helping car #85 perform at its best, while also supporting car #71 to achieve further breakthroughs and steady progress. The team will compete with even greater strength in the next race, striving for higher goals and showcasing even better performances on the track!

🏎 | 260420 | Uno Racing has released a detailed debrief explaining the issues faced by car #85 over the weekend, after many viewers (myself included) noticed unusual performance struggles that affected both drivers; here's a summary.
During the opening race of the China GT Championship at the Shanghai International Circuit, the No. 85 car driven by Wang Yibo and Melvin Moh faced several technical and race-related challenges that impacted its performance.
In the first race, the main issue during the race was a pit stop error, where the team did not meet the minimum required pit stop time. This resulted in a penalty that forced the car to pass through the pit lane again, affecting their race strategy and overall position.
After that race, the team discovered worn-out mechanical parts, which prevented the car from reaching optimal performance. These components were quickly replaced before the second race, but the limitation in spare parts made the situation more difficult.
As a side note, I clearly recall the English commentary noting that both UNO Racing Mercedes cars appeared to be experiencing some form of difficulty during their run in Race 1, so that's what it was.
In the second race, despite improvements and strong driving, the car was affected by significant tire wear, which reduced stability as the race progressed. This made handling more difficult and limited their ability to maintain pace and overtake competitors, especially for Melvin Moh, who was in charge of the last stint.
