How does this keep happening??? - An artist starts taking commissions - They take on too many... - Artist is also always posting about how they are also out of money too... - Patient commissioners are too patient and let the artist go without much communication or "bothering" - Lots of time passes... sometimes a YEAR or more without the work being done - Commissioner starts reaching out but often gets ignored or if they do get a response its "soon it will be done" - Doesn't get any response until they make a call out post - The artist then has to write a huge post about how they are overworking themselves to finish everything or giving refunds... If you're an artist, learn to communicate actual answers... not just tell people what they wanna hear. It hurts to upset people, but it's worse to ruin your reputation because you want to make everyone happy but you legit can't cause you over booked yourself. Most people will be understanding if you are honest. Also some advice, don't accept money for a project until you are STARTING THE PROJECT. If you are a commissioner, I know what ts like to not wanna rush somoene, but stand yp for yourself. No art should be taking over 6 months to do after you have paid unless its a huge project that has been explained as needing to take that long. This type of situation cant keep happening. It sucks for everyone involved.

Yap post (long post) I've mention this before to a lot of artist moots that I discussed freelancing with. The one thing i personally know that a lot of starting artist are weak on is doing "BUSINESS" A lot of times when I give advices to artist that asked me for advice. I mainly focus on the business aspect more over the techniques I use to draw. Main reason why I prio that is because "Artist" generally improve over time. Regardless of what i teach them They themselves are capable of growing their own quality. "But how would you grow your quality if you don't know how to promote yourself?" I'd always mention that. "passion is indeed important" But being blind on the reality that you need some sustainability on your passion will lead it to ruin. If you as an artist read this. Know that when i state art as a business. I don't mean kill your passion. I meant use the sustainability part of your work to get opportunities to grow your dream. There's more to talk about but i just wanted to yap out of.. well boredom.

@kida_howlette It got Coachella'd. Cons have become so big that they are being run for profit and not for the community. FWA has five different tiers of passes, not counting the $4k tier that gets you a hotel room. The worst part is that people will actually pay for it

Sorry moots going to FWA but I won't be there. when the hell did FWA get so expensive?? I want to support the fandom and all, but when it's competition is DragonCon and MomoCon, price is really what needs to set it apart. FWA is almost at DC pricing but is a 1/10th the size?
