That was an extraordinary press conference from Brad Scott. Admitted some players didn’t have a will to defend, admitted some went into self preservation mode, admitted there is a cultural problem with older players not digging in when it gets tough. The two things can both be true. Cricket is much more Australia's national sport than any other sport. But it's also seasonal and outside of the home summer, overseas Ashes and (historically at least) 50-over World Cups, interest levels drop off significantly.

This may be controversial but, despite all the rhetoric about cricket being the national sport, it’s a niche sport outside an 8-week window. Paywalls and cultural reasons. Huge challenge for CA to overcome. Hopefully they can make inroads.
