How are sick and injured children expected to recover, to heal, without any immune strength from over 2 years of inadequate food and water, in displacement shelters with no warmth, no protection from the elements. chuffed.org/project/149178…. The Sameer Project recently distributed 50 warm winter blankets to Al Rantisi Hospital seen here, and 50 to Patient Friends Hospital, both in Gaza City. Each blanket was for a little over $60 yet the relief to have something to wrap the sick or injured child in was worth way more. We are getting more requests for blankets, directly from the hospital administration themselves for their patients, as well as from camps all across Gaza. These were the first few moments of unadulterated childhood happiness when the first rainstorm of the season hit and kids were running through the streets playing in the puddles. chuffed.org/project/149178…. Innocence meets youthful ignorance, unaware of the serious repercussions and problems this first storm would bring. It was a heavy and pounding storm, ushering the Winter months in with a bang. This year, everyone in Gaza was praying the rain would be delayed, hold off until the promised shelter entered the Strip, but unfortunately that was not the case. The rain fell, hard, and with it makeshift shelter were swept away in the winds, families were soaked, food supplies kept in the tents ruined, and more loss incurred. Children in Gaza have the clothing on their backs, nothing more. And most of their outfits were suitable for the summer heat, not the cold winter temperatures. chuffed.org/project/149178…. When it rains, as it has been in Gaza, they have nothing to change into, no alternative clothes, just what they are wearing, which is soaking wet. There is clothing to purchase in Gaza, but most has entered commercially, not as free aid. This winds up in the markets and families cannot afford the prices. Despite all they have been through-the rubble, the war, the fear- the children of Gaza return to life once more. They laugh, they run, they play atop what remains of the pain, as if telling the world: we are stronger than destruction; we are the children of life.

15-year-old Yusuf Subh from Burqin, southwest of Jenin (West Bank), could not stay silent as Israeli occupation forces repeatedly raided his town and killing its children. In the early hours of dawn, he left his home to join local youths resisting the invasion, despite his father’s pleas to stay, Yusuf was his only son after three daughters, born after years of waiting. Israeli occupation forces killed him and have held his body in a morgue freezer for four years, denying his family the right to bury him. His mother still celebrates his birthdays in silence, imagining how he would look as a grown man. “I envy the mother who buried her son,” she says. “I just want Yusuf back, not mutilated, not violated, so I can say goodbye.” Source: raya.orouq (IG)
