A young stockman sitting on a battered tucker box in a moment of quiet contemplation remains a defining image of Beef Australia expos, 30 years after it was chosen to become the official picture of Beef 1994. The photograph was taken of Patrick Underwood by his mum Terry Underwood at a dinner camp while mustering at their home station Riveren in the Northern Territory’s Victoria River district, not long after Patrick had returned home after graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of NSW in Sydney... #gallery-1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">beefcentral.com/beef-2024-prev…

@DamScanlan Yes, Damien Frost restricts plant hight, that’s good & bad. Planting times is critical. If there is enough topsoil on top of the water holding contours to support plant life.

@AdamCoffeyNT We as beef producers owe a shitload to Terry and he’s right to reiterate good management. Because it’s not the industry norm but hopefully this is a driver

Can anyone tell me why carbon farming Cant be done like this? Rather than block planting of farms ?

@AdamCoffeyNT I think when the data from CarbonLink hits the airwaves and soil carbon ACCU's are finally issued, a lot of speculation will be removed. We have to play the long game.

Another day, another bit of consultation with yet more people speculating about the carbon game. More indication that those that can actually make a tangible difference will end up on the raw end of the deal. Hard not to be sceptical… 💰

@flowerchimes Many! Several different N-fixing trees, groundcovers, and herbaceous species. The exact species vary across the farm according to elevation. I'll put together a complete list at some point.

The typical coffee farm applies ~ 200 kg/ha of synthetic nitrogen each year, an excessive amount I worked with this farm to phase out synthetic N and cut a total of 195,000 kgs of annual applications The trees are healthier, higher yielding, and the coffee tastes better...

@samdknowlton Similar soil carbon rates of sequester C02e/ha/yr been recorded in northern tropical Australia. Soil core samples data recorded in the pasture grasses of the mature Leucaena hedgerows.

With the addition of hardwoods, Intensive silvopasture systems can sequester 26.6 tons of CO2 per hectare. The high digestibility of Leucaena leaves can reduce cattle methane production by 20-30% Combined, this is a huge GHG reduction compared to conventional beef production

Intensive Silvopasture is an agroforestry practice that combines high densities of nitrogen-fixing trees with grasses. The trees and grasses are grazed by livestock in a managed rotation. Within the proper context, these systems offer several massive benefits.

Big news @CarbonLinkAU preliminary results from 5yr soil carbon measurement on one of the pilot properties shows that for every kg of beef that left the property, 50kg of CO2 has been sequestered, factoring in methane emissions 🥩 🐮 🌱

“My mother was knocked down and trampled on by a ‘friendly’ heifer having a play. 300kg v 84yo bones is not a fair match.” Great work from @RFDSQld team & exactly why we exist 🐂🛩❤️‍🩹

Living in remote Australia is tough at times. Long way from medical help. We are so lucky to have the incredible service of the Royal Flying Doctor. Thank you @RoyalFlyingDoc for the night evacuation of an injured family member very precious to us. Godspeed.
