How can you take your foot off the gas and lean into a simple productivity in your #writing, with breaks and deep breath? It may resonate for you more than you image. #WritersWisdomWednesday

So many of the posts about #writing are all about productivity. It’s no surprise, in our ambition-focused world, that we are fond of pushing ourselves into achievement. But that’s not the only way. #WritersWisdomWednesday

Do you have a go-to list of people to read your work? How did you gather them? What do you expect? And if you don’t, how might you go about gathering your peeps? #FocusFriday

I found my go-to folks by asking and then laying out what I hope to get from their comments. Often, I’ll supply questions I want answered. I’ve learned that I trust their instincts as well as my own. And I’m free to disagree. #FocusFriday

Good feedback means focused on the work as I’ve laid it out. These are folks who won’t rewrite the piece: “This should take place on the moon.” They check to see if the characters are consistent. Does the story make sense? #FocusFriday

@TeaRoseKent Many writers I’ve encountered are so distrustful of positive comments, the ONLY value harsh and negative feedback. I want a balance. I’m willing to trust the blessings and the cuts.

Good feedback is balanced: what works, what doesn't, and why. I don't trust anyone who says it's superb, brilliant and perfect as it is. But my ego would like to hear that. (Fat chance.)

I find it useful to have a list of people who are willing to read my work and can give me good feedback. Whether is a pitch document or a script or a logline – these are folks I trust and can ask any time. What does good feedback mean? #FocusFriday

Your writing journey won’t look like anyone else’s. Different scripts. Different timelines. Different opportunities. The goal isn’t to copy someone else’s path. It’s to build one that works for your voice and your life. #WritersWisdomWednesday

Writers sometimes believe they’re stuck. Often they’re just alone with the problem. A conversation with the right person can unlock something in 10 minutes that you’ve been wrestling with for months. Never underestimate the power of talking it through. #WritersWisdomWednesday

Every script needs something different. A sharper logline. A deeper revision. A stronger ending. A clearer pitch. There’s no cookie-cutter path in writing. Your job is figuring out what this project needs. #WritersWisdomWednesday

Many writers think their biggest problem is talent. Most of the time it’s actually clarity. What does the script need? What does the career need? What’s the next move? Clarity changes everything. #WritersWisdomWednesday

When I was coming up as a writer, I asked questions everywhere. On set. In hallways. After panels. Over coffee. No one hands you a roadmap in this business. You build your own — one conversation at a time. #WritersWisdomWednesday
