@moneypro disappointed in what you’re doing to your paying users of your “old” app. You should have grandfathered your original users and either stop annoying us in notifications in the original app to upgrade or, don’t overcharge us in the new app the exorbitant $ you’re asking.

@niccruzpatane CarPlay is overstated. It’s just mirroring your phone. It’s nothing different than what we used to do since 2010 by streaming pandora over bluetooth and using Google Maps for navigation by hanging the phone on a dash mount.

BMW’s VP of UI/UX Development says Apple CarPlay’s popularity is a myth, and people don’t use it as much as you think. I personally think CarPlay is very overrated. Nothing beats a well-designed integrated UI, and no one does it better than Tesla.

@niccruzpatane Teslas have coolant, refrigerant, windshield washer fluid, Model S and X literally have gearbox fluid. Other things needing maintenance on an EV and not on a gas car are: debris check on charging port as it can cause issues if accumulated over time, home charger inst/maint.

@niccruzpatane I rather replace my fuel filter because it’s a small individual part rather than the entire engine or an expensive electronic motherboard. automotivedive.com/news/tesla-rec… What other circuitboards or transistors will go bad outside of warranty that will lead to costly repairs?

@niccruzpatane I don’t mean to be a contrarian, because I actually really like the Model Y, and I’ll see one in my stable at some point. But… the narrative of maintenance simply isn’t true. If something goes bad in my kitchen, I’ll replace that part. I don’t replace my whole kitchen.

Owning a Tesla means never worrying about: • Oil Changes • Transmission Maintenance • Catalytic Converter • Timing Belts or Chains • Exhaust Systems • Spark Plugs • Fuel Filters • Radiators Leaks • Fan Belts • Fuel Pumps • Valve Adjustments • Head Gaskets • Oxygen Sensors • PCV Valves • Clutch Assemblies • Starter Motors • Alternators • Thermostats • Crankshaft Sensors • Water Pumps • Ignition Coils • Mass Air Flow Sensors • Ignition Coils • Oil Cooler • Transmission Cooler • MAP Sensors • Fuel Rails A Tesla needs around 200 moving parts to operate, compared to a ICE vehicle which needs onwards of 2,000 parts.

@niccruzpatane Fewer parts doesn’t mean a car is more reliable, nor does it make it more expensive to repair. And I like Tesla by the way, but some of the claims are simply misleading.

A dual-motor Tesla drivetrain has around 40 moving parts, while a drivetrain from a Hybrid ICE vehicle typically has over 3,000 moving parts. An EV drivetrain eliminates the need for thousands of moving parts, reducing complexity and making the end product significantly more reliable.

@Tesla You prepay it in significantly higher insurance costs every month. And if you keep the car for the long term, you’ll post pay them again at battery replacement time. I like these cars, I like the Y. But to try to justify its purchase as a financially better choice? No.

@webluke @SnazzyLabs @Anil__io “Just”? I’d love to see us use unoptimized software with aged processors. Then talk about how little Apple’s done. I don’t necessarily disagree with Zuck on this, but diminishing the innovation value of processors?

@SnazzyLabs @Anil__io Those are just custom ARM CPUs with significant OS-level optimization. Zuckerborg and his companies purchased most of their new tech with no major changes also.

@Apple it may be time for iOS to focus on the OS part. Pros need a terminal app, files app needs to be far more like finder, I want to see hidden files, I want to monitor network activity from all apps (wifi or cel), I want to know what app is asking for what from my device.

@dhh @Abade_Faria How do you feel about privacy? Or at least, the perception of privacy or lack thereof by being on a Samsung/Android. It’s what’s held me back from trying. Nothing iOS is open source, but so I can only perceive privacy. But I’ve fared well since 2009.

@Abade_Faria I like the Samsung hardware better. The S24 is the most comfortable full-spec phone to hold. Only 168g! So, so good. Feels mega premium too. Best Snapdragon chip.

"Only 78.9% of respondents now identifying as firmly committed to the Apple ecosystem, down from 92% in 2021". Having been on Android for a ~year, I can totally see why. Virtually all my historic objections to Samsung/Android are gone. macrumors.com/2024/12/16/sur…

@dhh @kristoph They just couldn’t get the developers. And IIRC at the time c# and .net wasn’t open source or cross platform. If they had then what they have now maybe they could’ve done better. Today may be too late, but with good hardware, one never knows.

@kristoph Microsoft threw untold billions after Windows Phone. They couldn't do it. I don't think we're ever getting a mainstream alternative on the phones. Competition will be in another form factor.
