The world feels so unstable right now. It's a bizarre time to be living through. I have a newborn daughter. I keep imagining what I'm going tell her about how she should live her life when she's in high school. What advice do I give? What career should she pursue? The true answer is that I have zero idea. The world is changing so quickly. How could i possibly know?? One of the big advantages of technology is that it shifts the playing field. It changes who's powerful, who's important, who matters. That creates enormous opportunity. But it also removes any anchor you have to the past. Imagine the far more static world of the 1700s or 1800s. People alive then felt deeply connected to history. They saw themselves in the Holy Roman emperors, in the city-states of Athens. They looked back at Cicero or Solon and saw themselves as their direct descendants. The world was a machine that had stayed the same for thousands of years, and they felt confident they knew how it worked. When you have hundreds, or thousands, of years of history backing you up, you feel rooted. You have an immense sense of place and purpose. Technology robs us of that. There's no precedent for what we're experiencing. I can relate a little bit to a Roman emperor, but they never had Claude, railroads, cars, oil, hospitals, stock markets, movies, google, univerisites, F-22s, aspirin, Christianity, smartphones, rockets, air conditioning, instagram, flashlights, or cryptocurrency. So much is completely new that we don't feel connected to anyone in the past. A connection to the past provides a sense of rootnedness. You can grow up knowing the world looked like the world of your father, and your father's father. You can grow up expecting it will look the same for your children, and your children's children. You can connect to them and teach them what you know, confident it will matter to them. Instead, we feel only lost and confused. No one who came before can prepare us for what is coming next. And right now we can't prepare our children for what's to come. We're alone on a dark path, in a forest with no moonlight, and it's clearly freaking everyone tf out. We're robbed of belonging to an order and structure that gave so many of our ancestor's lives meaning. What will give my daughter's life meaning? What structure will it have? What will really matter to people in 25 years? I have only a few answers I'm confident about, and it's terrifying. It's truly a strange time to be alive

By far the most accurate post I’ve seen about how Iranians around the world feel, including myself. Please stop lecturing us and take a moment to read this. “A lot of people outside Iran are watching what's unfolding and are shocked by one thing in particular: that Iranians will feel relief, even joy, when a violent dictator falls. Whether you like it or not, that reaction is real. It comes from lived experience. After 45+ years of being hunted, tortured, disappeared, executed, and massacred, the collapse of the machinery that did it doesn't feel "complicated." It feels like a breath. A moment of air. And no, celebrating the fall of a dictator doesn't mean Iranians are naïve about what's next. People inside Iran understand the aftermath better than anyone commenting from the safety of a democracy. They understand how dangerous transitions are. They understand the risk of chaos, revenge, and power vacuums. They knew from the beginning that you can't topple a regime like this with empty hands. They have paid for every peaceful route with blood. So here's what some need to hear: If you've been absent for 45+ years, if you ignored the massacres, the executions, the prisons, the disappearances, the rapes and only found your voice from the safety of a free country because Iranian suffering finally fits your political framework... then you do not get to arrive now and speak with certainty. You don't get to lecture Iranians with theories as if your analysis is the truth. Because what's happening isn't a debate. It's survival. And Iranians don't need permission to feel relief when their oppressor falls, even while they brace for the frightening road ahead. Listen to Iranians. Amplify them. Centre the victims, and not your worldview. And stop regurgitating regime propaganda.”

Sad to hear : Magic Eden is shutting down support for Ethereum-based assets and Bitcoin Ordinals/Runes, refocusing its marketplace and wallet entirely on Solana as it pivots away from a multi-chain NFT strategy. CEO Jack Lu says Magic Eden is now doubling down on iGaming and speculative products, cutting NFT buybacks and rethinking the ME token after its value collapsed nearly 97%.@MagicEden

To the Nifty Gateway community, Thank you for your feedback on the recently announced closure of the platform. It is our goal to conduct the process of closing Nifty Gateway in a smooth and orderly way and that all of our customers are able to move their NFTs to their wallet of choice and have access to them in perpetuity. Below is an update on the closure process: ✅ Our plan is to migrate the metadata and media hosting on Nifty Gateway to a permanent, decentralized solution on Arweave. There is a subset of NFTs created in 2021 or before with metadata that is permanently linked to Nifty Gateway’s servers. For these NFTs, we will continue to host this metadata in perpetuity. ✅ We are extending the deadline for moving assets to a 90 day window, with a deadline of April 23, 2026. After this date, if customers have not moved their assets off the platform we will continue to work with customers to make sure that they are able to move their NFTs to their wallet of choice. ✅ We are working on a bulk withdrawal tool for our customers who have multiple NFTs on our platform and will be rolling it out shortly with plenty of time to use the tool before the April 23 deadline. We continue to be grateful to the Nifty community for joining us on this journey. 🩵

I also just donated $1 million in bitcoin (15.47 BTC) to @realDonaldTrump and will be voting for him in November. Here’s the TL;DR — President Trump is: Pro-Bitcoin Pro-Crypto Pro-Business And he will put an end to the Biden Administration's war on crypto. Onward!
Tyler Winklevoss@tyler

I just donated $1 million in bitcoin (15.47 BTC) to @realDonaldTrump and will be voting for him in November. Here’s why: Over the past few years, the Biden Administration has openly declared war against crypto. It has weaponized multiple government agencies to bully, harass, and sue the good actors in our industry in an effort to destroy it. This Administration's actions have been nothing short of an unprecedented abuse of power wielded entirely for twisted political gain at the complete expense of innovation, the American taxpayer, and the American economy. There is nothing the Biden Administration can do or say at this point to pretend otherwise. Some of the lowlights include the following: The weaponization of the banking system against crypto companies and their principals. Known colloquially as Operation Choke Point 2.0, this starts with the OCC (a federal agency that licenses and regulates national banks) and the FDIC (a federal agency that provides deposit insurance to banks) giving “guidance” and instructing banks behind closed doors not to bank crypto companies. Any bank that doesn’t follow orders is threatened. The conversation goes something like this: “That’s a nice bank you got there. It sure would be a shame if something were to happen to it because you bank some crypto folks.” If this tactic is not enough to scare a bank into line, the examiners will be sent in to turn everything upside down. This will almost certainly lead to some “finding” — show me the bank and I’ll show you the crime — that results in a massive fine or new supervisory rules and conditions that cripple a bank’s ability to operate. The risk is simply too great. Banks can either choose not to bank crypto companies or have that choice made for them. These agencies have God-mode over banks because they can yank their license or FDIC deposit insurance at any time citing “safety and soundness” concerns. That is why they can behave like characters out of the Godfather and intimidate banks into dropping any customer or customer segment they want. This behavior of de-banking entire industries that are completely legal, but ideologically out of favor, began during the Obama Administration, when President Joe Biden was Vice President. It was nicknamed Operation Choke Point 1.0 back then and is a well-documented stain on the Obama Presidency. The Biden Administration has dusted off the playbook and has been running it at full speed against the crypto industry. The blast radius has extended beyond crypto companies to individuals who work at them. I personally have lost multiple bank accounts because I own crypto and my investment firm @winklevosscap has as well. The weaponization of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) against crypto. The Biden Administration’s SEC has not written a single rule for the crypto industry to help any of its participants understand how to navigate the regulatory landscape for this new asset paradigm. This is by design. By not writing any new rules for crypto, the SEC can disingenuously say that the existing rules — based on a 1946 Supreme Court decision about a citrus grove in Florida, issued before most homes had a telephone and 50 years before the advent of the commercial Internet — are fit for purpose. They are not. Here’s one example. If ether is a security, an open question up until 48 hours ago, then you would be breaking securities laws if you sent ether to a friend from your smartphone to their smartphone. Why? Because only a broker dealer is allowed to transfer a security. And it can only do so to another broker dealer. From this example alone, anyone can understand how classifying a crypto like ether as a security would gut its utility and destroy its ability to usher in a decentralized future. It’s like asking an automobile to behave like a horse. Yet that is the position the Biden SEC has taken towards almost every crypto. It does this not because it doesn’t understand the consequences, but because it does. These are exactly the consequences it wants. To kill crypto. By taking the ridiculous position that almost every crypto is a security, the Biden SEC has given itself the plausibility and carte blanche to bring litigation against any crypto project and company in the United States. The game is simple. Make it impossible to comply, then sue everyone for not complying. And that’s exactly what the Biden SEC has done over and over again to good actors in the space. Instead of the SEC hashing out rules for crypto — something that could be done in a matter of days — rules will be written years from now by judges and juries who determine that the SEC acted in bad faith and was wrong all along. The time and economic waste will be tremendous. The damage will be done. But that’s the point. The Biden Administration has polluted the mission and corrupted the integrity of these agencies. All of them are led by unelected bureaucrats appointed by President Biden to carry out his marching orders. The moral compass of these foot soldiers is political gain and their higher calling is political power. Congress never granted them the statutory authority to determine the fate of the crypto industry or any other legal industry in America and they are totally unqualified to act as the gatekeepers of economic life in our country. That is the role of the market. And yet the crypto industry is not alone. The Biden Administration has consistently attacked American business across the board and villainized its greatest heroes. The crime is always success and the reward is always ridicule, fines, and even more red tape. But to be clear, the Biden Administration doesn’t hate success outright. Only the kind that lives outside of its control. Once it figures out how to confiscate or coerce it, the Biden Administration becomes quite enthusiastic about success, gleefully manipulating it or redistributing it in a transparent attempt to buy votes. Over a long enough time scale, it's easy to see how these policies will lead to the destruction of our economy and our country. Capitalism lifts people up. When allowed to flourish properly, it is the greatest generator of wealth and prosperity the world has ever known and it's the only economic system that can achieve all of this peacefully, while upholding the freedom and dignity of every individual who participates. With certain conditions in place — like the ability for anyone to incorporate a company, open a bank account to accept customer payments, and operate in the open market without government interference — innovation and wealth creation will thrive unbounded. Remove any one of these building blocks and you will have an entirely different system with entirely different results. This is exactly what the Biden Administration has done to the crypto industry and many other industries in America. It has been dismantling our economic way of life and the system that made America the greatest country in the world. And it has done this solely for its own power, control, and political ambition. Of all the capitalist experiments, America has been the greatest. I have seen and experienced this first hand many times. @Gemini, a crypto platform I founded in 2014 with @cameron, went from an idea on a napkin to becoming a company that has employed thousands of people over the last decade and helped millions of customers gain access to crypto. I’ve had employees thank me in tears because their time at Gemini allowed them to buy a house for their family. I’ve had customers approach me on the street and thank me for building Gemini because it helped them achieve financial freedom and start their own business. It is these experiences that give me the greatest joy and provide meaning for everything we do at Gemini. The Biden Administration has tried to tear all of this down. I am not going to stand by idly and let them. I’m going to continue fighting for what I know to be so right. President Donald J. Trump is the pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business choice. This is not even remotely open for debate. Anyone who tells you otherwise is severely misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth. It’s time to take our country back. It’s time for the crypto army to send a message to Washington. That attacking us is political suicide. This is why I will be casting my vote for President Trump in November and I hope you will too. Onward!

It's a pure loss that Nifty Gateway is closing its doors. The closure is weighty. Time will be kind to their role, but I largely just sit in gratitude for what was given to me by its people before an ending we had to prepare for unfolded. If you look closely at the paintings themselves, the names of every single person who helped build The Monument Game are carved into a tree. In Masquerade, the names appear again. Etched into a ring of wood cut from a branch on that tree's fall. Platforms are unfortunately not forever, but those who worked within are part of the pieces themselves: the artwork and the mission attached, always had a more survivable host of a record of the people who helped us. What we made together across The Monument Game, Masquerade, the Masks and their royalty structure, exhibitions in Venice and Toledo: these were years of problem-solving and invention. My experience was never with something as abstract as a platform or marketplace, and I hope the people within do not get lost in the conversation around its closure. Each name on these trees gave love, late nights, resources, and real risk to build what I couldn't alone. Working alongside them was a joy, but the greatest gift was what I learned from the team. The engineers and producers unlocked my practice, learning from them opened things that were latent and felt inaccessible to even dream. How to exit ideas-mode or the vibe of a thing, or even a singular medium, and to actually build complex systems as well as how to guide people through them. That's the best a collaboration can offer an artist: support to dream. When we began development on The Monument Game back in 2022, Rachel and I wrote something into the contract that felt paranoid but non-negotiable at the time: full ownership and transferability of all data, code, and functionality we built together. NG agreed, and their cooperation in honoring that clause has made preserving our work much easier. These pieces and stories are not just mine, but also every person who contributed. Every Player and Mask is a part of these pieces and interfaces and now everything we created together survives. The mission of archiving every experience, every observation, dot, and the links between the people within has been underway for a long while now as part of a much larger shift of what Luci will become and will be up on my new home for this story quite soon. The archives preserve everything we did together while expanding and refining every aspect. Doing this sets up a foundation where all agency is returned to us for the future. Human memory seems to survive by jumping to tougher hosts: song, stone, servers, etched into a painting. New domains, pins, contract migrations. These help and go hand in hand with a transition like this, but this is a loss with some lessons. It comes paired with immense gratitude to those who gave enough to us, that even as one thing dies, enough motility was set in motion, flowing towards what we made that our creations together get to live and thrive beyond their first host. And the loss also comes with clarity that permanence isn't a technology quite yet. There is much to learn from the serious archivists. To preserve is a commitment. This is a lifelong project. As inconvenient as it is, good comes in its wake. What we’ve made to archive all of this is the best the artwork, story, people, and technology has ever been shown. A small preview in this still. A lot of history disappears when doors close. For all those with Masks and Players on there, take time to follow NG’s guidance and support team to withdraw and keep close for the future in a way that can survive these kinds of endings. They gave us their assurance they are all hands to help. No one likes this moment, but there are a lot of good people affected in and out. I wouldn't be here without the people in the tree. Marking them with creation, and caring for what we built together. That's the work now.
