As all flights are cancelled, the entire airspace shut down, news of missiles and drones making 24x7 headlines here in India; I am currently stuck in Delhi while my wife and daughter are in Dubai.
They are safe and calm and confident even while the crisis zone is literally around them. No panic whatsoever, all emergency services working, stores are full with supplies and all communications channels working round the clock.
Pihu, my daughter just submitted her IA essay draft much before her school deadline tonight and assuring me on phone that everytime fine and I should not worry, while baking her favourite cinnamon rolls on Sunday evening. She is getting all alerts and following all security instructions diligently.
Yes, i am concerned about my family out there as anyone would be, but not for a single second I had any doubt about what the "system" over there would do to protect them in time of crisis. It's home for millions of Indians like me, and the promise of safety and security that rulers and government mark as their signature of governance is always unshakable and non negotiable.
And that is what makes me full of gratitude to the place and it's people and the system which together makes a roof that millions of Indians like me call "Home". Home is where the heart is. We are proud residents of UAE and a proud Indian passport holder at the same time, and that's an unshakable bond which won't break regardless of how the time and crisis test it.
And yes, I am eagerly waiting for the airspace to open. Not to get them out of Dubai, but to fly back home and be with my family. Rest assured, the passport will always remain the one with the Ashoka emblem, and the home will remain UAE.
