Here's what's being going on at our retainer clients: 1. Helped one deal with a recurrent outage. @yuki24 and I quickly identified the issue as being caused by a combination of database pool misconfig, Parallel gem usage, and an undersized db plan. No problems since. (1/n)

A couple of things happening with the new retainer service makes me think @yuki24 and I are also “fractional staff engineers”.
It’s a huge level up for most small teams to suddenly get code reviewed by 30+ years combined Rails experience.

@igor_alexandrov Present the stats on toprubycompanies.info and tell them the dying language has helped these public companies around the world generate nearly $70 billion of revenue. Then ask them to come up with what a dying language could (not) do to the economy and compare that with Ruby’s.

The client hired a C-level officer who thinks about how #Ruby is dying, and nobody learns it, so we need to get away from it.

@hiro_asari いや、むしろかなり勉強しているようで、AngelsやMLBの Instagramでは通訳無しで会話しているオフショットが結構アップロードされてましたよ。イチローもそうでしたが、公の場やmound visit等、意思疎通で誤解が生まれると大きな問題が起きかねない場合は念の為通訳を介する、ということだと思います。

これやってました。海外全般ではなくてアメリカ限定の話にはなりますが、これの1番のハードルは、実は個人の能力ではなくて、「採用需要をアメリカ国内だけで満たせる状況なのか」という、需要側の問題の方が大きいと思うんですよね。
今はアメリカ国内のエンジニアが余り気味で、わざわざ国外に人手を求める必要性が（もちろんゼロではないが）低い。そうすると、そもそも個人の能力は関係ない。

日本に住みながらリモートで海外の開発案件を請けるスキームが確立すると2000~3000万ぐらい稼げる世界線も夢ではないと思うんだけど、実際にやっている人は存在するのだろうか。ただでさえコミュニケーション難易度が上がるリモートで、さらに英語となるとめちゃくちゃハードルが高いイメージ。
