homophobic and straight ppl in general, specially in the 80s didn't view lesbians as women but as ppl trying to do what was "men's" which is loving the "actual' women, "the straight women" the fem women. that's why fem lesbians are invalidated and sexualized and mascs are hated

and im saying this as a fem lesbian. if a homophobic man sees you and thinks u might be a fem lesbian he's probably not going to try to kill you or physically hate crimed you. but that's often the opposite when it's a masc presenting lesbian.
