With due respect, the true essence of the Maldives’ tourism industry seems to be missing at #ITB2025. The authenticity, vibrancy, and strong presence that once defined us need to be restored. ‼️🚨Breaking News (new form of money printing) I’ve just received news that @MMA_Maldives is getting into the real estate business to help Muizzu with budget. @MMuizzu has asked HDC’s Mauroof to sell 22 hectares of Urban Isle to MMA for 15 billion MVR. This is essentially a new form of money printing as MMA will be injecting this money into HDC, just like that. This is not normal for a central bank. Mauroof opposes the deal, but the board is set to push it through via a resolution at this highly inflated price. 15 billion MVR will enter circulation and it will weaken MVR even more but Munavvar is confident he can maintain the currency peg if resorts keep paying USD. @MMuizzu will be using this to cover budget shortfalls. This is really concerning.
