update shipped since this post: added the circuit breaker layer on top. three thresholds the protocol enforces automatically:
- 3 consecutive errors on same tool - session killed
- Same tool 6× in one session - loop detected, terminated
- 30 total calls - runaway guard fires pre-flight check on every call. If a session is already dead, the tool doesn't execute. Zero wasted gas after the breaker trips. the session layer from this post was the prerequisite. You can't detect loops without state. Now that the trail exists, the breaker is just a layer on top. error budget is explicit. _circuit_breaker in the response metadata tells the agent exactly why it was stopped and how to recover. live now at zambo.dev

just shipped: session-layer context persistence on Zambo MCP. the problem with stateless MCP servers: every tool call starts cold. Multi-step agent workflows - search - memory - on-chain execution - had to re-hydrate context on every single hop. That compounding latency is what kills autonomous agents mid-workflow. the fix: agents now pass _session_id in any tool call. the server accumulates a rolling context trail (last 10 calls, 20-min TTL) and injects the prior call history directly into each response. no separate memory fetch. no extra network hop. the tool response is the memory handoff. call 1 - stored. call 2 - call 1's context already in the response. call 3 - has 1 and 2. The session travels with the data, not on a separate roundtrip. initialize now announces session_context: true - any MCP client that reads capabilities knows it's available. Backwards compatible: no _session_id = zero overhead. this isn't a UX feature.
