Luke Falk shared a Mike Leach story that stopped me cold: Two kids. One rich. One poor. Every training camp, Coach Leach told his team about these 2 kids. The rich kid has two choices. Get soft. Get entitled. Expect everything handed to him because he was handed more. Or take the resources, the coaching, the opportunities, and compound them into something greater. The poor kid has two choices too. Say nobody gave him anything. Blame the world. Make his circumstances the reason he never became what he could have been. Or outwork everyone in the room. Luke said the locker room had both. Kids from wealth. Kids from nothing. Kids with every advantage. Kids who scraped for every inch. Same choice for all of them. Ownership or victimhood. Fuel or excuse. The rich kid can waste the head start or build on it. The poor kid can drown in the deficit or weaponize it. Greatness doesn't come from where you start. It comes from which kid you choose to feed. Credit to @coachlukefalk for continuing to share golden nuggets about Coach’s legacy

@College_Crosse Perhaps making your conference tourney should be requirement for NCAA tourney bid?

The last time a team with fewer than 3 T20 wins got into the NCAA Tournament as an at-large was Villanova in 2018, who had 2 No team with fewer than 2 T20 wins has made the tournament as an at-large dating back to 2010 So Duke would be a historic outlier should they get in

@College_Crosse It would be cool if you added a column next to the teams listing their “best win”….would be insightful

@zapp5zapp @laxreference The committee does not look at raw RPI values. All the committee looks at is ordinal ranks within the RPI. A 0.1 difference in raw RPI is an absolutely massive gap. "Why play the games if they don’t matter?" They do matter. It's always better to win the games on your schedule.

Maybe. I've never loved the idea that one game on the schedule should be weighted so heavily. All games should matter. I have no problem if the committee were to say that they flipped the last-in / first-out because of a H2H, but I just think it's weird to do that.

RPI Top 25 end of the night. Top 5 is pretty solidified. Hopkins is looking good for a home game. So is whomever wins Harvard/Cornell next week. Then it's a big blob between UVA/Marylan/Penn State/Yale/Ohio State

@fieldystick @College_Crosse Would have switched Penn state and Maryland. 0.1 difference in RPi (negligible) and PSU with h2h victory + more top 10 wins.

@College_Crosse Nothing objectionable in this top 10. Some RPI shifting since the early week has moved Harvard down the pecking order a bit. I would stamp this committee top 10 as “correct” as we begin the day. Nothing off the wall like the year J’ville was T10 with no data to support it

@College_Crosse @ElliottInscho I really hope the committee takes into a account that these weren’t just one goal fluke type wins, these were blowouts of certain top 10 teams, that has to matter somehow

@College_Crosse @ElliottInscho They have 5 losses by 6 goals. Nova and Navy losses explainable by a freshman keeper getting adjusted. Aquino either didn’t play or wasn’t 100% in others losses. Would prefer to reward teams for Great wins vs bad losses. They blew out Cornell and Princeton, drubbings!

As expected, Penn State falls outside of the committee’s initial top ten. The Nittany Lions beat three teams on the list, including No. 2 Princeton, but their several upset losses have them on the outside looking in with about two weeks until selection day. Work to do still!

@College_Crosse @ElliottInscho Penn state’s wins blow Maryland’s out of the water. Plus PSU has the head-to-head victory over Maryland. PSU’s wins are also better than UVA’s. When RPI is within a tenth of a point should we rely more on H2H and Top 10 wins?

@ElliottInscho I would say they’re probably in the field right now, but last team in. One more win in their Big Ten semifinal would likely be enough.
