Faced with the challenge of saving Fred, a gummy worm whose plastic cup boat had capsized before he got his gummy life preserver, Ms. Chiam's 5th graders at Paumanok worked cooperatively in pairs using only shared ideas and paperclips to help Fred get into his lifesaver. #HHHCSD

On the 1st day of school, @zchiam_ 's 5th graders at Paumanok worked cooperatively to complete a STEM challenge where they had to build a variety of cup towers, but could only use string and paper clips to manipulate the cups. #HHHCSD

5th graders in Ms. Chiam's class at Paumanok created elephant toothpaste as part of their chemistry unit. Elephant toothpaste is produced when you combine very warm water, active yeast, dish soap, and hydrogen peroxide. #HHHCSD

As part of their study of ancient civilizations of the Western Hemisphere, students in @zchiam_'s 5th grade class at Paumanok created Inukshuks using Model Magic. Inukshuks served many purposes in the Arctic region, including navigation, fishing spots or sacred locations. #HHHCSD

During their study of food chains and webs during the ecosystems unit, 5th graders in @zchiam_'s class at Paumanok participated in the dissection of sterilized owl pellets. Their focus was considering where the energy the owl uses originally comes from. #HHHCSD
